the same guy beating his chest when smith got release writes a 5 page novel about the gm being released, this is hilarious, in the words of the great Denzel Washington man the fug up, Cool the timing is off but it's done, writing a damn novel bitching and moaning ain't going to bring dg back, instead of blaming everyone else, maybe take a sec and ask yourself how did it get to this point anyway? but naw lets have a good ole kum ba yah about the ownership, players, water boys, and parking attendants on how they played a role in him being released

Mediocre man, look at the overall record and lack of back to back winning seasons. All of that says mediocre.  We have been the laughing stock of the NFL several times since 1995.

I guess it depends on how you want to look at it... I personally could give a crap about overall winning percentage. Not to say it's not important at all, but you would you have rather have had a 15-1 season and lose in the SB or 10-6 and win it?

The Panthers have been above average in terms of postseason wins, which matters most to me.

We have been the laughingstock of the league exactly twice, 2001 and 2010. A lot of teams have had bad years, though. Very few haven't been the laughingstock of the league at some point.

The ones that haven't have had an elite QB for most or all of the time period. We finally got one in 2011.

The last sentence of that article says it all "I think Dave Gettleman was really good at his job"  No $hit. JR screwed the pooch folks.

The same fickle national media that killed Gettleman all season last year for ruining our season before it started (And in retrospect it did as much as anything).

This is all fodder... no one in the media or fans know what goes on behind the scenes at BOA stadium.

All that matters is how the team does in 6 weeks on the field

Always better to lose a Super Bowl than win it.

Seek help, buddy.

how about this one:

Quote

Lombardi: I think what happens is Gettleman didn’t have the owner buying in. Typically, the way ownership should run is: [The GM’s] running the team. I’m letting him run the team. It was hard for [Patriots owner] Robert Kraft to lose Vince Wilfork. He loved him as a player. He adored him. But he’s given [Patriots coach Bill] Belichick the autonomy to run the team, and Bill felt it was in their best interest was to make a contract that was worthwhile to the Patriots, and Vince didn’t want to take it. And I think [Kraft] gives [Belichick] that authority, and once Kraft steps over that authority … there’s dissension within the ranks. You have to add another layer into this, too: Ron Rivera. Ron Rivera was hired by Marty Hurney.

but gob forbib we tell williams to get his act together or get out. i'm pretty sure deangelo didn't do much besides barely train, eat cheetos, and play playstation 3 between 2009-2012.

I honestly believe if JR hadn't fired Gettleman now he likely would have been in a pickle at the end of the season.

If things play out like I suspect, this team will be raising the Lombardi Trophy.

At that point good luck getting rid of DG.

yea and it almost makes me wonder if he would've been gone after 2015 if it wasn't for the superbowl appearance

If we win the SB, YAY, all is well.

If we don't at least lose the SB, Las Vegas Panthers.

This isn't just directed at you frash, as you are one of my favorite posters, but I just don't understand all of this hero worship for a guy that still couldn't put together consecutive winning seasons, IN LARGE PART, due to his own ego and stubbornness.  Again, he made some solid picks, he made some horrible ones, all while he scorched, nuked, and destroyed multiple legacies and professional relationships along the way.  I just don't see how that is translating to "Gettleman: The Savior of Carolina."  Results were the same with him as they were with Hurney, minus the contract extensions...  But, that was the only difference between them - their respective tenures are marked by polar opposite approaches to retaining players and negotiating contracts.  One was a pushover with an open wallet, the other was a hardass, uber-penny-pincher to the extreme.

And again, the two (non-consecutive) winning seasons he had were with a core that Hurney built, LOL.  Cam, Luke, TD, Olsen, and others...  I get that people are unhappy with the move, but all of these dramatics in mourning are just really over the top, imo.

How many GMs put back to back winning seasons when they can't fire the staff and are in cap hell? Much less do it in less than 4 years. Want to know why he is so liked. One he gave us a roster to compete every year besides last year and that was a super bowl slump year. Two Rivera never even made it to the playoffs without Dave much less every year besides a super bowl slump year. Three all this was done with no cap to speak of. Tell me another GM that did all that with those circumstances. Dude should have got a raise not canned.
