We can not afford to lose Star Lotulelei

We just signed Turner to an extension and I'm stoked about that.  The next guy to extend absolutely has to be Star Lotulelei.  Vernon Butler is NOT a NT, he is much more like KK than he is Star.  Star is one of the best NT's we have ever had.  We are best with a good DL and Star should be a vital piece to that DL for years to come.  That is all.

100% agree Let's get rid of Gano , Dickson and Oher. That shoud free up decent amount of money

I really want us to re-sign Star, but here is where the Hurney vs. Getts debate will show its true colors.

I trust DG to get a fair/market value deal done without really overpaying. Hurney, I feel like will toss an inflated deal to Star because of pressure to sign him and need on the DL. We really need Star, but at 28 years old and Norwell 2 years younger and arguably as important a need on the interior with an aging Kalil that is only signed until '18, I have pause.

Star is a priority, but I wonder if it's harder to replace him in the draft/FA or is it harder to replace Norwell. I know Norwell was a UDFA and we just signed Turner, but this is where DG excels as a GM and I am nervous that interim-Hurney or the next GM will be able to make these tough decisions.

I think Star may be one of the most important people to sign for an extension on the entire team. Norwell, while important, doesn't have quite the impact if he is lost because of the squad around him and the ability for a team to assist a guard on the way up. A nose tackle, like Star, can't be hidden if he's not up to par.

Ideally, you'd want to go ahead and start negotiations with both players this year. Both have a rough idea of their market value, their asking price and the lofty goal set by their agents. You hope that somehow between the two you can get them both signed at a moderate amount (neither will be cheap, barring an injury), but both could be seen as giving team-friendly deals.

Why should they give team friendly deals? Because the teams wanting to pay big bucks for nose tackles and guards in free agency are often teams with glaring problems on those sides of the ball. And it is easy to flame out in organizations like that. Each might want to go for three or four year deals while the Panthers' current playoff window is still open and then look at that third contract as a big money deal somewhere else... somewhere desperate.

Losing Star would in turn effect the biggest strength on defense the LB corp  the ripple affect would be 2 much

No fu(king kidding!!!!!

If Hurney lets Star walk, i will go brick mad. Star was DG's very first pick!

The lack of adding a DT or DTs was the sole reason why Hurney got the boot in the first place! Hurney settled for fuggn Fua and McClain! And our defense was trashed even with a rookie Kuechly.

Star and KK made a total transformation to our defense!

Star better be the next man up!

I hear ya

I hope the team can keep Star. But, I think he's easier to replace than Kwann Short.

Short has had a double digit sacks from the NT spot. That doesn't happen on a routine basis in the NFL. Plus, he now has a legitimate DE's playing on both sides of the D-Line which should make him even more dangerous this year.

Star can fill the holes and take up blockers with the best but he's not irreplaceable, especially with his injury history.

It's hard to find a true NT like Star who commands a double team all the time. NT do not get paid crazy sum so we can extend him for a reasonable amount.

Star & Norwell should be next
