We can not afford to lose Star Lotulelei

Star is under contract this year, is this his 5th yr option? Or is that next season? Either way, plenty of time to get it done....

This year is his last year under contract, then we have the tag...which I think we probably use in the case of us not getting a deal done.

Do you all not remember Hurney 1.0? He's doesn't value DT all that much.

Maybe he'll learn from his mistakes and remember that we went to the SB when we had a strong DL anchored by a great NT and we sucked ass when he let the talent at DT utterly run dry.

Norwell needs to be next, then Star if possible....but I'm not thinking it will be...unless we mortgage the future.

The Panthers haven't done that in a few years though.

We haven't mortgaged the future since that hurney guy was in office.

Oh.. He's back?

Yeah. Vernon is not a 1-tech. He doesn't do well against double teams. I don't get why people say he'd be Star's replacement.

However, that's not to say Star could be replacable. Next year's DT class is really strong, and Lowell Lotulelei is also available.

I'd love to resign Star, bur I'd rather us lock up Norwell first beforehand.

I came here to post, but you literally read my mind.

Not saying he won't be a solid player but selecting Butler in round 1 when we already have KK is foolish.

Incredibly foolish, but I think it was more of an insurance pick incase KK didn't play easy to get, you saw how much tolerance DG has for that poo...

Who's more important Short or Star? Not sure I love the idea of sinking another top dollar contract on a DT.

I really like Short, but thought the smart move was to let Short walk (with Vern drafted, it was possible to transition away from Short) and keep Star. I'm thinking Star would yield a slightly better performance to $ value. With Star's past health issues and less sexy stats, I expect he wouldn't get nearly the same $, but his contributions to the run D go unheralded in the media. Kinda like when Kemo manned the fireplug role. Not as noticed till he was hurt (and Brandon Jacobs ran wild). Same with Star.

I'd love to keep both but lot of cap to sink in there now that they got the 2nd contracts coming.

I too question paying Short all that money, especially with Big Vern in the wings, but it's hard to argue against it. I am not mad about it, but admittedly may have explored other options. It will look a lot more questionable if Star ends up walking.

Yeah but none of those guys are good run blocker as Star , we might have let go of Gano & get Star and Norwell extended
