Gettleman found more consistent players then hurney but hurney found more elite players . take it as you want but id rather have the elite players then good players 

I'm sure this has been pointed out multiple times but this is the worst analysis I've ever seen. Hurney was consistently picking in the top 10 and Gettleman at the bottom. Good lord

This comparison is pointless.

Hurney was poo outside the first round. We know, thanks for the breaking news.

Ultimately I think even though the 2011 draft in particular outside of Newton was absolutely abysmal, the acquisition of Olsen and drafting of Luke the following year are cornerstone moves that like it or not, Hurney made them. I don't want the man beyond an interim role, but it isn't up to me. However, we had franchise players in place when Gettleman came along that set him up very nicely compared to some of the rest of the league. The same can be said for whoever will become the next permanent GM of our team. I can only hope they know what they're doing.

The only reason Carolina got Cam is because the Panthers were the worst team in the NFL the previous year.   That's the sort of results Marty Hurney delivers when he is put in charge.

Therein lies the problem. We already had a guy who knew what he was doing but now we have to hope we find another one and that JR will put up with him if he doesn't coddle the players and give them everything they want.

Knowing Gettleman he probably would have picked a D-lineman instead of Cam. So thank god Hurney was picking

You have absolutely nothing to base that opinion on because Gettleman  never needed a QB and never had the opportunity to pick the #1 player in the draft.

This is the dumbest comment ever. Like really stupid. Hurney got Kris Jenkins, Steve Smith, and Dan Morgan in one draft before he came. Not to mention that he actually had cap space to pick FAs. His next draft the only player worth a damn he didn't get from FA was Julius Peppers. He left Dave with Luke, Cam, no cap space, bloated contracts and a old team.

He never needed a 3rd DT and he still picked him, he never needed a backup LB and still picked him.

The same JR that belittled Peyton Manning with a pie chart in a CBA meeting during the lockout, and sent the team into a tailspin in preparation of said lockout?

JR ultimately cares about himself, and his net worth. This idea that he will sacrifice anything or anyone to keep the players happy is horseshit. I think firing Gettleman right now was a stupid move, but I think it had more to do with Jerry asserting his authority over the franchise than these idiotic assertions that Olsen an Davis went crying to JR to get Gettleman fired.

He picked him because the value was there and because DT's are a valuable commodity. It was a good pick. By that logic though, whey did Hurney pick Luke when we already had a starting MLB?
