Ron says Marty made some "blunt" comments about the roster

One thing about it: Funchess is still young, and has played TE before, and KB has a TE's body and speed.

But maybe Hurney isn't even referring to these guys. We know Dickson ain't getting it done though.

I may be alone, but Hurney's thinking outside the box excites me greatly.

What you call "thinking outside the box", I call not having an eye for talent.

Funchess is a bum!

The conversation went like this:
1. I don't know about McCaffrey. I think for the right place, we could get DWill back here. Right around 4 years, 75 mil.
2. Curtis Samuel, nahhhhhhhhhhhh. Smitty is a phone call away.
3. We need a proven kicker. Let's call Kasay.
4. I think if we can break the bank on Revis, he can be ours.

I bet kasay could beat out gano today. I still hate we cut him when we did.

*Sigh*

Do I have to show a quick analysis on why Funchess doesn't suck and had a lot of missed opportunities?

Like I felt sorry for how bad his luck was.

I think most of us who are being "blunt" about Funchess understand a lot of that, and there's still some hope with new coaches in Taylor & Cotch that he can improve.  I'm willing to give him one more season, especially since he'll be pushed for targets by guys like Samuel & Shepard.

But he needs to be in the conversation about players who need a close look.  If he continues to disappear on the field and play "small" he needs to go.

I have to admit that I didn't watch Funchess play while he was in college. I don't really follow the Big 10 that much being a South Carolinian in ACC/SEC country. He's had a couple of ok moments since he's been here, but he hasn't wowed any of us yet.

While I believe Funch could cause some matchup problems for LBs (and safetys) on certain passing routes, is he physically tough enough to block in the running game and run routes in the middle of the field? I'd rather the team consider  Barnidge and cut ties with Dickson, who doesn't really contribute much to the team.

So in their first conversation, Hurney gave Rivera cause to reflect more on his roster and look at it from another angle. How is this in any way a bad thing?

I'm betting that a couple of the players were on the offensive line, he may have talked about Butler doing more at DE, and potential for a CB to try out the SS position.  But I doubt he was talking about starters.

It's a bad thing because we have all seen this movie before and we know how it ends.

The only one who played small last season was KB. I blame that on his recovery from his ACL, but still.

Now, about how he disappears, he honestly just has a case of bad luck. I remember seeing this recently on twitter:

On the above, Cam has a rare overthrow on a deep route to Funchess. Devin ran a stellar route and was wide open, but Cam was unable to connect.

Funchess just needs more opportunities. He really does have a lot of potential as a standout WR.

If we're being completely honest, this is a good thing.

Why Ed Dickson in particular is still here is beyond me. Which makes it even more absurd that fans are turning on Greg Olsen when other than 2011 we've given him no TE worth a poo to work with all these years. But that dastardly greedy Greg Olsen got muh Gettleman fired!

I can't tell from that quality if Funchess was grabbed or if he stumbled inbetween the 20 and 15 which caused the throw to miss him by a yard or two

I know... having him switch isn't ideal but if Davis is planning on staying for 2-3 more years...

Shaq is way too talented to see anything other than full time snaps

See this is what I don't like about everything that's happened. Now we're saying TD gets to decide how long he plays and starts here.

If I was Shaq and they told me to move to SS I'd say release me so I can play on a team that actually wants me to play. He's already said he doesn't wanna be a SS.
