Ron says Marty made some "blunt" comments about the roster

Well you have to give the guy at least 3 full seasons before you can honestly and accurately judge him. Too many fans get pissed when every draft pick doesn't make the pro bowl within two years. A lot of players have to take their lumps and find their niche.

That's why I didn't say he was a total bust. But the notion that he has been better than even Keary Colbert is crazy, let alone Jerry Rice like in comparison. Its absurd

Funchess is the same damn player he was at Michigan!!!

He's soft and it's always "what could be" with him. Players like that don't often change. There isn't a magic switch, either you have it or you don't.

You should put in your resume' for Gettleman's job since you're such a great talent evaluator.

Good!

Im hoping Hurney has heard all the talk (being in the media) about weapons, wide receivers and protecting Cam.

Outside perspective is good right now. There are still holes in this roster that gettleman was clearly content going into the season with.

Maybe they'll start exploring the idea of Shaq at SS if we're bringing back Davis. He'll obviously need to lose weight but I was psyched when we drafted Shaq because I figured that was the plan all along

I thought about this (since TD is about to sign an extension), but a more realistic move would be Cash to SS.

Ok, I don't think this has been posted, but the MMQB has some comments by Ron following his meetings with Marty yesterday to review the roster:

It would be interesting to discuss who some of the 7-9 guys are that Marty might have been "blunt" about.

Funchess comes to mind.  Hopefully Dickson.  Maybe Gradkowski.    If you were Marty and had to list the guys you found most questionable on the roster (of those who currently are quite likely to make the 53) who would you pick?

(by the way, I haven't been to MMQB since the superbowl, they've got a new header featuring Luke.  Cool!  https://www.si.com/nfl     )

The conversation went like this:

1. I don't know about McCaffrey. I think for the right place, we could get DWill back here. Right around 4 years, 75 mil.

2. Curtis Samuel, nahhhhhhhhhhhh. Smitty is a phone call away.

3. We need a proven kicker. Let's call Kasay.

4. I think if we can break the bank on Revis, he can be ours.

Sure doesn't sound like Hurney is "interiming" or "place sitting".

Sounds to me like he's ready to get active as soon as possible.

One thing about it: Funchess is still young, and has played TE before, and KB has a TE's body and speed.

But maybe Hurney isn't even referring to these guys. We know Dickson ain't getting it done though.

I may be alone, but Hurney's thinking outside the box excites me greatly.

In my mind, this is about the ONLY positive re: hiring Hurney.  He at least was in a position to jump right in knowing almost all the key people and having continued to stay involved with the team.

He mentioned in his presser that his big priority is to work on the "emergency list" - the rolodex of guys to call or try to acquire should we have injuries or need more depth.

I'm glad he's able to hit the ground running.  But yeah, I fear this may not be a short "interim"...

*Sigh*

Do I have to show a quick analysis on why Funchess doesn't suck and had a lot of missed opportunities?

Like I felt sorry for how bad his luck was.

I stand by my statement when I say he has more WR1 potential than Kelvin Benjamin.

Not really. If anything, they're about equal with Funchess having more upside. This will only be his 3rd season, you know.

I never thought about Funchess as a blocker, but Lafell was good at it.
