Will Gettleman's next team be your new favorite team?

I think that you are overblowing this a little Red.

Most are mad at JR, not the players.  There is nothing wrong with asking for more money, and nothing wrong with the Panthers saying no.

I wish I was. We aren't going to agree on this. I would just suggest you look around a bit at the threads and posts. There is a very obvious discontent with certain franchise players here with fans suggesting guys like Olsen and TD are either just greedy, or even worse they actively sought to get Gettleman fired because they are spoiled babies. Look around and you will see. It sucks, but it's happening, and it isn't going to get swept under the rug come time to watch our season opener and the same fans try to act like they never said these things.

Typically, I try to skim over many of the bad posters here...I try not to get in the mud too much....but yes I see it.

I look at it like this....some fans are going to criticize all, some the GM, some the QB, some the owner, sometimes the blame can be spread around....but it's going to be there.  I'm just not going to get too emotional about much other than bad contracts, and bad drafting.

Quick question.  When I come out and rage against the contract that DWill signed, do you take that as me bashing the player or the front office?

Well, that depends: do you follow it with "I'm not going to root for this team anymore" or some derivative of that?

Raging about contracts is nothing new here, I don't think that's too big a deal, or comparable to what we are seeing now because neither TD or Olsen has actually agreed to a new contract yet. So there are no details to be enraged about because of the salary cap.

These fans are in a tizzy because Gettleman was fired, and they are looking to blame any player they can find, I've even seen Mike Minter trashed. It's gotten out of hand to say the least.

Youth, anger, anonymity, those things can lead to saying some pretty dumb things.  You know what fan is short for.

The reason I ask the contract question....is there are some really good contracts on our team, and there have been some that kneecapped the franchise.  I'm scared that is what's going on right now, and am hoping I'm wrong.  It's not that I don't want to see TD make a bunch of money, or I don't want Olsen here longterm, I'm just a weirdo about the cap and long term planning.

I can understand that.

If the upcoming contracts are not ideal, I will certainly be concerned to a degree. Just like I was concerned when we threw all that money at Matt Kalil, and that was Gettleman. And if we're being totally honest, his stubbornness with addressing the OL led to us being backed into that corner with the left tackle position. But at the end of the day, there isn't anything I can do. I'll just try to enjoy football.

I didn't want Gettleman fired, but I think that's for another discussion pertaining to just how good or bad of an owner Jerry Richardson actually is, because at the end of the day all of this stops with him.

What's funny is a 1-15 season in 2001 or a 2-14 season in 2010 for the more recent fans wasn't enough to scare them away, but firing Dave Gettleman, well now, that's just too much

No it's the fact that we went through that 2001 and 2010 season, actually got a competent GM then in a blink of an eye he's fired and the guy that put us in those horrible positions over the years is back. It's jarring. And super upsetting to the people who lived through those years and still came out to games and supported the players. I'm not leaving, I've said as much in other threads, but to say I'm disappointed in JR is an understatement.

Oh, I will jump up and down with joy if the extensions that TD and Olsen are about to sign are team friendly....I don't think for a moment that they will be though.

That said, you and I will not agree on the left tackle issue this team has faced since Gross pulled out, and that's OK.  There have been precious few LT's that we have been able to try to acquire...just the nature of the beast of our terrible cap problems a few years ago, teams not letting quality T's walk, and the college ranks not putting out as much talent at that position as years past.

That said, I don't think the Kalil contract is as bad as many here....and it could be a great contract if he plays at a high level, and remains healthy.  (not really counting on either of those)

i mean in the end this is just a game.  but, i'm sure most of us know how it feels when you feel like things have changed for the better and past mistakes have been learned from but then it all gets undone in the blink of an eye.  falling back on old bad behaviors, bad habits, whatever.  it's a disappointing, empty feeling, but it's familiar.

Yeah I think frash said it best with the gaming system metaphor.
