Looking back, it's almost like he was getting all that in place because he knew something else was on the horizon. Pure speculation and maybe a coincidence but it was curious timing.

 

Maybe someone who listened on a more regular basis than I did could verify that.

So Hurney was on with Jim Szoke this morning on WBT 1110. Said he no longer was involved in the day to day operations of the station at all and people have been put into place to handle that. He is 100% focused on Panthers football now and says he got the call from the Panthers on Monday. Just seems rather quick to be able to step away as an owner/operator and have things in place already and the stations format changes going into effect a week or so before all that but I am not in the radio business.

Also, I would think JR had to go through some vetting process regarding the Rooney rule with the NFL before being able to hire Hurney. I imagine that would take some time running it past the NFL legal department and all. Hurney was hired within a day or so after GMan was fired so I have a feeling JR already had the Hurney move approved before the firing. 

I guess in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter even if my purely speculative theory is correct. Just makes you wonder how long the wheels have been turning on this move.

I said yesterday this whole thing felt really orchestrated. Things don't move this quickly and smoothly in real life.

If this is the new theory then it discounts the TD/Olsen led to GMans ouster.
