Was DG that great?

He has loaded this team with talent from the top of the roster to the bottom and he did it while digging us out of cap hell. What more can you ask from an NFL GM? His UDFA signings are better than most of Hurney's draft picks, for crying out loud.

OK...I like Gettleman.  A lot.  But he did not load us with talent from the top to the bottom.  Our OL and secondary have been question marks during all 4 years he was here.  The OT and S positions have been ignored for 4 freaking years.  We lacked quality starters and quality depth at both positions.  And don't even get me started on the WR situation.  So give me a break with that mess.  This team has had plenty of holes.

Over 2/3's of the 2015 Super Bowl team roster were Gettleman acquisitions.

So, basically, Gettleman overhauled over 2/3's of the roster in 2013 and 2014 and we went to a Super Bowl.

But GETTLEDOUCHE SUX.

Um...how many of those guys played integral roles?  Some...but certainly not a majority.

Well how many other teams are two deep with pro bowlers at every position? He has done as well as can be expected with what he inherited. You can't go out and sign those pro bowlers with no money and you can't control injuries.

who said anything about pro bowlers?  We didn't even have competent starters.  That is inexcusable.  And the cap hindered DG the first two years.  But last season there was simply no excuse.  We had plenty of cap carryover.  He had plenty of chances to address those positions in the draft. But he did not...for 4 years.

Your desperate attempts to try and make friends on this board reeks of patheticness.

Not only are you too stupid to think for yourself, you continue to ignore any of the valid reasons that have been given as to why DG may have possibly been shown the door.

It's been explained so many times in depth and politely.

Hurney even dropped several hints during his presser when he kept talking about "communication".

You two should seriously just find another team to cheer for.

Nothing has been explained and you should seriously just kiss my ass.

Personally I blame last season on DG and I dont know how you could not.  He took a  superbowl caliber Def  and Secondary and replaced it with rookie draft picks and expected to play great again.  Jno was a mistake esp with Tillman heading out  and no confidence in Bene Wikiwikiwerewolfery

Yet, we lost about 6 games by a FG or less.

The fact that every player that speaks out about dg, instantly becomes a whiny bitch should tell you all you need to know.....you don't have that many players speak out saying the same damn thing without it holding some truth. I'm surprised he got fired but I'm also not going to act like he didn't dig his own grave, there are several good reasons why dg got let go, this only becomes the right decision if we find someone long term who can do better then what he did here in this tenure

Who is not a competent starter right now and how would you go about finding those competent starters and still keep the money to sign your up and coming players? This is the NFL and you have to make do with what you have. There are not enough players to go around for every team to have great starters at every position and even if there were, it would be too expensive for any team to do it year in and year out. Gentleman has done as well as anybody can expect.

Just for argument's sake though, who do you think could have done it better?

Great teams build through the draft.  Plenty of tackles have been drafted the past 4 years that could have done better than Remmers, not too mention our backups.  How we went several years without drafting a tackle to develop is crazy.  The one position you cannot afford to completely ignore other than QB is those protecting your QB.

And all DG ever talked about was how you win football games "in the trenches". If the trenches were his specialty then marching Byron Bell and Mike Remmers out there says a lot about his ability to evaluate talent

I agree.  I also think that DG knows how much a good to great LT and RT can cost, and his cheap ass didn't want to pay that knowing that he had a QB who could scramble to mask a bad OL.

all GMs play the odds. We really won't know about his players until their prime. but how many Hurney "odds" players are still on the team?

I am not defending Hurney...my post never even mentioned him.  Hurney had some awful drafts.  and awful FA pickups.  He also had some good ones.  But my post was simply in reaction to the comment that DG loaded this roster top to bottom with talent, which is not true.
