Was DG that great?

JR signed off on those deals too. The common denominator is the owner is mediocre. Therefore the team reflects that. Hurney and gman weren't running the team with no supervision, doing whatever they wanted while JR napped in his owners box, as much as people want to act like that was how it went down

Oh, I agree. I've lost faith in Jerry. He has proven to care more about emotion than winning

This is where I disagree with you.

Norman was never going to be anything but a one year rental.  Period.  He was not (WAS NOT) ever going to be signed to a long-term deal, primarily because of his position and his age.

Gettleman prioritizes impact linemen over skill position players.  Why?  Because that's how you win in the NFL.

Please do name me one of the NFL great teams that won because they had the best WRs and DBs while they also had a poor OL and DL.  Even the Failcan'ts, after all their years drafting receivers and corner backs and being inconsistent and losing in the playoffs, finally wised up.  The Failcant's didn't have success last year because Julio Jones is super amazing (he is) and Trufant is an extremely good CB (he is)... the Failcant's finally put it all together last year because their OL was quality and healthy and their DL increased their sack numbers from 19 (in 2015) to 34 (in 2016).

So Josh Norman, as good as he is (and thinks he is and he's worth) became surplus to requirements, because what this team really needed to do was re-sign Kawann Short (just like we still need to re-sign Star Lotuleilei... and Trai Turner... and hopefully Andrew Norwell... hear that TD and Greg?).

So Josh Norman's "heart" had nothing to do with it.  What the core of Josh Norman and his agent's efforts were was to become the highest paid CB in the NFL, not "heart". (P.S. Don't blame Norman a bit for trying for that mark and succeeding, btw... but lets please not try to paint a story of Josh's sad puppy dog eyes missing his ol' Carolina Home when what he really wanted was the $$$).

I see what you're saying, but maybe my thoughts didn't get worded as well as they could've or got lost in translation. I never thought JNo was part of our future. IMO, renouncing the dollars allocated to him were not repurposed into something else which made no sense. He could have played here in 2016 on the FT and would have done nothing more to our cap after '16. I think he would've solidified our secondary and allowed Bradberry to be our #2. Perhaps Bradberry wouldn't be so far ahead of the curve after his rookie year with Norman still here... I don't know. What I do know is that Norman here for 1 more year would've done nothing to really hurt our future.

I do agree that Norman, and honestly more so I think his agent wasn't seasoned enough to handle the negotiations. JNo wanted to get paid, but I think he would've taken less to remain here. Whether he realized that after he overextended his hand or if it was his agent's shortcomings, I don't know. I do believe he wanted to be here and paid top money, but I don't think he's a random player trying to get the highest paycheck and he doesn't care where he goes.

Says the guy who has literally kicked and screamed like a 2 year old for the last 60 hours because JR finally canned the fat man

Stupidity pisses me off. It was stupidity to fire DG and it's stupidity to claim that he as not a good GM. The man was the NFL executive of the year not long ago. How many teams have you GM'ed for, genius?

Timing.   It's all in the timing and the timing was terrible for this firing.   You do this months ago, not days before training camp.    I think he deserved another year, but if you're going to fire him, do it right, instead this is just an emotional knee-jerk from JR.

There wasn't ever going to be a good time for this as long as Gettleman was still healthy and of sound mind. You don't fire people for doing a good job.

If Gettleman was good at his job he'd still have a job.

We've yet to put together back to back winning seasons with a core so talented there's no excuses.

I could go on and I have but with you there's no point. We can talk once your p*ssy dries up.

Josh said so...

He just said he didn't believe anything Josh said. So you refuting it with "But he said so!!!" is just dumb.

Imagine a scenario where a disgruntled football player with a flamboyant attitude doesn't exaggerate the truth when all is said and done.

Speaking of which.. If you think Gettleman set us back, what do you call what hurney did to us before he was shown the door? Haha. It was ten times worse

It's not a zero sum game...Hurney deserved to get fired...so did Gman...I'm glad JR didn't wait 8 yrs like with Hurney...

If you can't see that Gettleman has put this team in the best position ever to have those back to back winning seasons and still have room in the salary cap to reload for future seasons, then you're a fuming idiot. He has done everything but play the damn games for them.

Explain why Gettleman deserved to get fired. Do you have a friend on the inside or are you just talking out of your ass because you're mad that Gettleman didn't draft the players you wanted?

He's just another one of those guys that are upset because Gettleman had the balls to let their favorite players walk when the time had come to do so.

You know what, Gettleman was doing a pretty darned good job. He'd brought us back up from the bottom and gave us the tools to make the playoffs three out of the last four seasons.

Back in the day, Marty was doing a pretty good job, and managed to put together the personnel and environment that got us to our first Superb Owl and gave us play off births about every other season. And then it all came to a close as inflated, back-heavy contracts started coming to fruition. It all fell apart about that time. And that collapse did give us the #1 draft pick where Marty snagged Cam Newton.

As things go, we've done better than half the teams in the league over the last decade and a half. Both GMs have gotten their share of criticism, and both had fans turn on them at some point. There are even some here now screaming that Dave was screwed who had called for his head after the Josh Norman incident or over last year's debacle season.

Whatever happened behind the scenes, and trust me it will stay behind the scenes, we're moving on. Marty was brought back in as interim GM because he's local, has organizational experience here and has stayed on top of what is happening in the team. Will he still be GM for 2018? I have no idea, but JR will get to see if Marty has learned anything over the years as this season goes on.

I wouldn't expect big, disastrous deals, or huge trades. Really, get some perspective. The main part of the roster is set and training camp will sort out the last 10 or so roster spots. Offensive and defensive schemes are set or are being finalized. And contract negotiations will continue as they had before, behind closed doors.

And Jerry Richardson wants a winning team just as much as you do. And he has fewer years left to see that Lombardi trophy hoisted in Charlotte than you do. Give the Big Cat a break, he deserves it.
