OK, let me put this to you in terms you might understand.
Little Billy has a lemonade stand.  He's allowed to use 50 lemons and 50 lemons only to make his lemonade, but if he doesn't use *all* of those 50 lemons, he can roll-over the unused lemons to the next year.
In 2016, Little Billy ended up using 45 lemons for his lemonade.  By doing this, in 2017 Little Billy was allowed to use 55 lemons for his lemonade!
But (and get this here, this is the critical point), if Little Billy had decided to use all 50 lemons in 2016, then he would have only been allowed to use 50 lemons for lemonade in 2017.
If you don't understand now, then honestly I don't know what else I can do for you.

Hahahaha Lol.. Omg you don't know what you're talking about..

Let me make it so you understand..Billy gets a budget of 50 dollars to spend every year..
Billy choose to spend 50 dollars in lemons during 2016...
2017 he wanted to change to grapes.. He still got the 50 dollar budget and choose to spend it on grapes instead of lemons this time..

By rescinding the tag on Norman, your god damn boy Billy had 55 lemons to use IN 2017!

If Billy kept the tag on Norman in 2016 he would've had 50 lemons to spend in 2017.

Billy had an EXTRA 5 lemons in 2017 that he would not have had if he kept Norman in 2016.

I really didn't want to get involved but jesus christ dude

Please show the rule where they gave us a extra 5 million on our cap for rolling over Normans tag money..

Don't show where the cap went up for all teams . Show me how we got extra money in 2017 for not pay Norman a one year tag deal in 2016..

So what you're saying is the panthers Cap is 5 mil higher 2017 than other teams because we didn't tag Norman in 2016..

We had 18 million in cap space while we had Norman under the tag.

We then removed the tag (which was costing us 13.95 million) so we then had 31.95 million in space after rescinding the tag.

Im not sure what exactly we carried over to 2017 (not looking up who we signed after we rescinded the tag). Let's say we signed no one we would've had 31.95 in cap roll over to this season versus the 18 million had we kept Norman.

Even if you decide to let Norman walk, where tf was the backup plan?? Can't honestly believe 2 rookie cb would make us still super bowl contenders

Oh yah, it was dumb as f*ck to rescind that tag.

Norman also brought an attitude/swagger to this D that Gettleman undervalued

And you would have had the samething if you choose not to pay Norman and let him go to FA the next year.. The tag is only for that 1 year!!
If you choose not to pay Norman that money next year .. Guess what .....You get that money back to spend differently that next year...

I shouldn't get involved in a losing battle, but here's a screen shot of Spotrac:

The 2017 Salary Cap for ALL TEAMS was 167 Million. (NFL.com article here:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000788547/article/nfl-salary-cap-for-2017-season-set-at-167-million )

The Panthers 2017 Salary Cap in 2017 is about 180 million.  WHY?  Because we rolled over the 13 million we did NOT pay Josh Norman in 2016.  If you don't spend your full cap money you get to roll it over.  But if we'd spent that money, it's gone and we would have only 167 million this year.

So wait... Norman pays the Panthers back the 13.95 million after the season is over so the Panthers can use it again the next year?
