If he'd spent it in 2016 you don't magically get it back in 2017.

But I agree, he took huge risks in 2016 and they bit him in the butt.  There are definitely things I criticize about Gettleman, but I respect his sense of fiscal responsibility and willingness to think long-term in a "win-now-at-all-costs" league.

You didn't have to pay him anyway this year.. it's a one year thing.. That money would have here regardless if Norman played 2016 with us.. Norman plays for us 2016 he leaves in FA's this year we still do all the same things we did.. How was that a smart move..

Dude, she's already said it twice.

The money they didn't spend under the cap by letting Norman go ROLLED OVER to 2017.  In other words, that 13-14M that would have been spent on the franchise tender that he didn't spend in 2016 (and, by not doing so, remained under the cap) ROLLED OVER to 2017 to give us 13-14M over and above what we would have had otherwise.

How do you not understand this?

We would have been able to do it anyway if Norman played under the tag..
The Tag is only for 1 year.. We would have still had that money.. Norman becomes a FA we don't tag him again and still do all the offseason stuff we did.. You do understand this..

OK, let me put this to you in terms you might understand.

Little Billy has a lemonade stand.  He's allowed to use 50 lemons and 50 lemons only to make his lemonade, but if he doesn't use *all* of those 50 lemons, he can roll-over the unused lemons to the next year.

In 2016, Little Billy ended up using 45 lemons for his lemonade.  By doing this, in 2017 Little Billy was allowed to use 55 lemons for his lemonade!

But (and get this here, this is the critical point), if Little Billy had decided to use all 50 lemons in 2016, then he would have only been allowed to use 50 lemons for lemonade in 2017.

If you don't understand now, then honestly I don't know what else I can do for you.

Let me make it so you understand..Billy gets a budget of 50 dollars to spend every year..
Billy choose to spend 50 dollars in lemons during 2016...
2017 he wanted to change to grapes.. He still got the 50 dollar budget and choose to spend it on grapes instead of lemons this time..
