Hurney makes sense for 2017

Ok, hear me out.

DG is gone, for whatever reason.

So we need a GM, do we run out and just sign anybody to a multi year deal?  That doesn't seem like the right choice this late in the game. So Jerry brings in a guy he knows/trusts to manage 2017.  I doubt we will see MH negotiate any major deals/ moves. He is here to get us through this year, while giving managment time to evaluate future GM candidates and not be tied to a less then ideal choice for the future.

This team is setup for a great run. The GM is not playing the games.  People need to stop with the sky is falling stuff and get ready for a great 2017!

Keep Pounding!

Yea I will say that DG getting fired won't make us worse this year...more worried bout the future

This is exactly my point and the OPs point. I think we already have a good enough roster to compete for 2 seasons despite anything Hurney could do in that small timeframe.

Isn't Hurney the guy who pissed off Julius Peppers, and the reason Pep came back was because we had a new FO and loved the Panthers community?

Where did you get that from? He was offered huge contracts. If Pep had issues it was with Fox and living in his home state.

the problem is we have no plan now... no vision for the future.

best  case scenario we have a mystery man as our GM in 2018. and its anyones guess what his plan will be

worst case we have hurney for another 10 years

either way its not a great situation to be in

Wrote-up on Julius Peppers a while back, and Hurney was a reason he left as well:

Peppers would not take the situation well at all, and made sure he let his disdain known. He felt the Panthers were insincere with their approach to getting a long-term deal done, and felt the silence from the Panthers was offending.

In an interview that aired Tuesday morning on Charlotte radio station WFNZ-AM, the five-time Pro Bowl defensive end indicated he's irritated by the team's "silence" and has changed his stance on whether he wants to continue his career in Carolina.

"Last year, at the time, that was the option that I wanted most," Peppers said. "Now it's not."

General manager Marty Hurney didn't immediately return a phone message Tuesday.

"How can you say you want to be somewhere when you're not really sure if they want you there because they're not even talking to you?" Peppers said.

"That deal was to make me the highest-paid defensive player, but slightly, very slightly," Peppers said. "I didn't really feel the sincerity behind that deal."
