What would you have done as JR?

With the Huddle losing their minds the past few days, I sat back and thought about what could have been done differently. Obviously, I would have never let go of G-man. But, assuming that's water under the bridge now, what would YOU have done differently if you were sitting in the owner's chair? I don't see a lot of options better than letting Hurney take over for a year just to give this EXTREMELY talented roster a chance to move forward with some sort of familiarity. However, I would have preferred a backup plan before we fired Gettleman (mind blowing, I know!).

I think that plan should have been to go get John Dorsey, the ex- KC Chiefs GM. From what he has done with limited resources with that team, and knowing the strong core of players we already have, I think he would have fit our culture perfectly. So what says you all? What was a better option then tagging Hurney with the interim GM title? Or, after a shortsighted decision, is this the best we could have hoped for?

I would have done exactly what JR has done member what DG said "You're  never one player away from a SB"

 JR "You're never one front office personnel away from SB or successful season"

I've thought about it, and what Beason said makes too much sense. Deny it all you like, but Beason still knows people in the locker room. He still knows most of the coaches. And I just believe he knows a little more than he let on in his interview, but being the professional and trustworthy guy that he is, he said as much as he's going to say without breaking people's trust.

The Panthers do their best to hire standup players---high character guys. The culture fosters a high level of professionalism, honesty and civility. Of course things are never perfect, because testosterone abounds, but a certain sense of family---inasmuch as people that come from all walks of life can have---is not just the fuel that makes the organization different and special, but is also (simultaneously) the byproduct of civility, honesty and professionalism that J-Rich likely demands. J-Rich obviously is going to give his peeps a certain amount of rope to play with---freedom to be themselves, but don't get it twisted, he's still the boss, and certain lines that he has drawn in the sand just aren't going to be crossed.

The abruptness with which this move was made, as well as the awful timing suggests to me that he and Gettleman likely did have a confrontation of some sort. If it is as Beason suggested, where Gettleman was trying to "dictate" to J-Rich and ultimately call his bluff, then it's no wonder he was canned, even days before camp. I'd have axed his ass too, and many of you would have done the same thing.

Being that the situation and timing is anything but great, Marty Hurney may be the best interim option available. He knows the culture, many of the "players" and some of the players. At this point in time, other than someone who is already working in a high capacity for the Panthers, who is a better option if you're actually going to take your time to get the right long-term fit for the culture that J-Rich wants?

If I were JR I would have taken a long hard look in the mirror. I would have realized that I have been nothing but a negative to this franchise since 1995. I would have realized that I have been nothing but a failure of an owner and I ooze out mediocrity. I would have realized that under my watch the Panthers will never ever under any circumstance win a Super Bowl, because I am a meddeling owner who can't get out of his own way and refuses to allow it to happen. I would have realized in two plus decades I have put the shield before the fans every single time possible. I have proven time in and time out that I don't give two damns about the fans.

After realizing all of this I would have done the only reasonable thing and woul have kept Gettleman and actively started to look to sell the team.

that is what I would have honestly done if I was JR.

Exactly.

Now if it's what everyone suspects (Olsen and TD), then I probably would have told DG to be a little more flexible and try to keep them, but to do what's best for the team.  Offer a shorter deal but don't break the bank.  If a deal can't be reached, don't be a D ick about it.

Teams don't fire their best GM in franchise history 10 days before training camp without an explanation. That is what dysfunctional franchise do, which we very much are right now. People have every right to be mad and upset over the dysfunction. It doesn't make them any less of a fan than yourself.

If I were JR I would try and move every once in a while when the cameras were on me at the Stadium.  Still not sure it's him and not a statue.  Just once, I would love to see him on the jumbotron sinking his teeth into a piece of Bojangles chicken and washing it down with some sweet tea.

Nah just the ones who believes that only  one man is responsible for the success of this franchise
