The problem with cutting TD is that Kuechly hasn't shown he can stay healthy for a full season. If he misses time this season who runs the show at linebacker?

Davis was the workhorse and mainstay the 6 games that Luke missed last year. Without him we would have been lucky to win at all. You can't get rid of him until you can replace him and his leadership. So far Shaq hasn't even been a starter let alone the mainstay at linebacker.

I'm not saying I want to cut TD but I'd rather have a hole at OLB this year than 2 on the OL in the years to come.

Shaq is going to take over the "starting" spot this season. Don't be surprised if he ends up with more reps than Davis. Lastly, comparing Davis to Kuechly is pointless because Davis doesn't play in the middle. When Kuechly goes down, someone else steps in.

No reason to cut him....wouldn't make any sense.  Just let him play out this year and give him a CJ contract after this season.

Also, Shaq has been around a while now....he's no spring chicken any longer.

I have a better idea. How about give him an extension to bring down his cap number next year and limit the guaranteed money so we can limit the exposure if he declines. Let's remember the bad Hurney contracts we're not about the total amount but the guaranteed amount which prevented us from cutting them due to a huge dead cap hit if we did.

As for Shaq let's see how he does as a starter before deciding he is the future.

But it doesn't have to be either or. It can be both. Again if we extend Norwell and Turner the hit won't be significant until 2019 or 2020. Contracts are almost always cap friendly in year 1 or 2. Again you just have to manage the guaranteed money.

I can't help but feel like we just threw away what could have been a golden period for the organization.  I honestly wish we'd trade Cam to an organization serious about winning.  If it weren't for him I'd have a hard time caring about the success we have the next few seasons.  You play stupid games, you win stupid prizes.

I didn't say it was a binary, but knowing Hurney and the fact that JR sent a pretty clear message to agents about how our front office is now run, we are gonna get taken to the woodshed by these agents. It was already going to be difficult to keep all 3 of Star, Norwell, Turner without acquiescing and giving Olsen and TD above market extensions.

TD and Greg should have been told (politely) to fug off and play out the season while we extended the young core of this team.

First of all Shaq will get more reps. Whether he takes the starter role remains to be seen. This is year 3 and he has lots to prove.

As for Kuechly it is important to talk about Davis because if Luke isn't in there who becomes the field general of the front seven? Mayo, Boulware, Shaq? So far it has been Davis. It isn't where they play but who leads and directs the team on the field.

This is Sky is falling logic which can't really be argued with since it is your fears and not yet a reality. I believe JR is a billionaire for a reason and won't let things get out of control again. We will have to see who is right.....
