As far as the cap mess, if many remember the new spending floor came out and the Panthers had to spend money and it was a huge rumor that JR pushed Hurney to give those particular contracts out at the time. So not sure you can 100% blame him for the contracts because of what was going on at the time.

Don't worry! It's not Hurney's fault for not using his brain and telling his owner that these contracts would seriously hurt them and just being a yes-man!

Dear lord.

Dear lord.

Why is Gettleman not here anymore? He didn't do what JR asked him to do. This basically stems from Norman not getting a long term deal, that was the falling out between JR and Gettleman.

Gettleman like all of the coaches and Front office personale was given more rope to hang themselves with and TD plus Olsen was the knot in the noose if you will.

Point with those three players is all were extremely close with JR. He didn't like how they were treated and it's basically the direct reason he isn't here any more.

Hurney is close with JR, so he did what his Boss told him to do and it gave him a long leash and job security. Most people do that unless they are the boss.

Gettleman didn't do that and he got fired... which would you do if your boss asked you to do something work related?

Just saying

First four years

37-27 two NFC championship game appearances and 1 super bowl appearance.

40-23-1 One NFC championship and one super bowl appearance.

Just saying, don't use record against one when they are basically the same but one had more post season success despite getting there 1 less time over the first four years.

Also can't blame him for the 2-14 season with John Fox as a lame duck coach, his hands were clearly tied behind his back by JR and not being allowed to either fire or extend Fox.

I will say, as a DG supporter, he gave M Kalil a Hurney-like contract.

Did you see how the market was going for OTs this year? Only OT you were going to get at good market value would be Byron Bell.

Remmers got 5 year 30 million dollar contract. 10.5 guaranteed

Okung who graded out as one of the worst LT in the league last year, right down there with Remmers. He got 4 year 53 mil 25 guaranteed

Getting kalil at 5 year 55 mil, 13 guaranteed is a steal

Dear lord.

What if Hurney only takes the job if he has control of football decisions, which he didn't have in his last tenure? What if Richardson meddled with both the contracts and the draft when Hurney was there the first time, with Hurney warning him about what would happen?

It may turn out way better than you might think. If Hurney convinces Richardson to let Hurney run the football operations without interference, results may be way better than the last time.

Why would Richardson do that? Because he's embarrassed that he fired Gettleman for not letting him meddle in the contracts [and the fact that Gettleman is apparently an ahole] and because Hurney can point to the mess that Richardson caused with Hurney the first time around and say, you want a ring? let me do my job.

Not saying that WILL happen, just that it could and Hurney2.0, free of Richardson's meddling, might be much better than Hurney1.0.

With a roster majority built by hurney. QB already in place, & defensive QB already in place.

After a decade of Hurney at the helm, the Panthers had become a team no better than the Cleveland Browns.

Hurney fielded a playoff caliber team 3 times out of 11 years.

Marty's utter incompetence is what resulted in the Panthers being awarded the first pick in the NFL draft.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and again and Hurney might as well have been a blind squirrel during the Panthers last several drafts.

That's why I chose those numbers, 2/35 would make TD the 2nd highest paid OLB (Von Miller #1) and 4/50 would make Greg the highest paid TE in the NFL. After the GMan firing, I'm not sure how much blame lies with Hurney for these terrible contracts, considering JR may have strongarmed him into doing them.

I know most of the fans here love TD and want him to retire a Panther but I'd cut him before I'd make a move that would not allow us to retain Norwell/Star/Trai etc.

The problem with cutting TD is that Kuechly hasn't shown he can stay healthy for a full season. If he misses time this season who runs the show at linebacker?

Davis was the workhorse and mainstay the 6 games that Luke missed last year. Without him we would have been lucky to win at all. You can't get rid of him until you can replace him and his leadership. So far Shaq hasn't even been a starter let alone the mainstay at linebacker.

No reason to cut him....wouldn't make any sense.  Just let him play out this year and give him a CJ contract after this season.

Also, Shaq has been around a while now....he's no spring chicken any longer.
