So Why Are So Many Fans Repulsed With The Idea Marty Hurney Is Near This Team? A Look Back In Time.

I don't think the Hurney angst is justified based on what happened 5 years ago. First of all he isn't the GM, simply an interim. Secondly, if he has hopes to actually be the GM he would have to know he would have to be very different from the guy he was 5 years ago which got him canned in the first place. I would think that he has had plenty of time to reflect on his mistakes and figure out where he went wrong. If he hands out bad contracts to any player he is negotiating with I suspect that would seal the deal to look elsewhere. JR likely fired Gettleman due to disagreements about how to build the roster and how much emphasis to place on current productive veterans who provide leadership and locker room presence, versus finding young hungry rookies with athletic talent that can develop down the road and are on rookie deals.

I am very curious to see what he has learned from the mistakes he has made and whether he can take what Gettleman did well and integrate that into his skill set while retaining the ability to engage and communicate effectively. Truth is finding that combination of skills is actually not that easy. But like I gave Rivera the benefit of the doubt, I will do it with Hurney until he gives me reason to doubt it this time........

Save it. I've been a fan since 2002, I think I have every right to be angry and ask for a head after a decade of mediocrity and incompetence at the very top. I've bit the bullet for too long. I've paid my dues as a fan. I stuck with them through some of the worst times this franchise has ever seen. So excuse me if I would prefer to see an owner up his own ass lose it all. Lessons should be learned no matter how old you are.

You "save it".  If you would legitimately enjoy watching the Panthers do terrible, then find a new team.  Be pissed off at JR if you want, but saying you'll enjoy your team crashing and burning....

If you say so. Its not that serious. It's funny seeing you complain about players being emotional, when you're quite emotional yourself. *shrugs*

First four years

37-27 two NFC championship game appearances and 1 super bowl appearance.

40-23-1 One NFC championship and one super bowl appearance.

Just saying, don't use record against one when they are basically the same but one had more post season success despite getting there 1 less time over the first four years.

As far as the cap mess, if many remember the new spending floor came out and the Panthers had to spend money and it was a huge rumor that JR pushed Hurney to give those particular contracts out at the time. So not sure you can 100% blame him for the contracts because of what was going on at the time.

Also can't blame him for the 2-14 season with John Fox as a lame duck coach, his hands were clearly tied behind his back by JR and not being allowed to either fire or extend Fox.

Just saying

If the past is any indicator they will be record setting deals that will prevent the team from retaining our younger talent.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Hurney just gives these two guys blank checks and tells them to fill whatever amount they want.

Ultimately, as little respect as I have for Hurney's GM skills, I primarily blame JR for enabling Marty's foolishness and preventing Gettleman from doing his job.

That's why I chose those numbers, 2/35 would make TD the 2nd highest paid OLB (Von Miller #1) and 4/50 would make Greg the highest paid TE in the NFL. After the GMan firing, I'm not sure how much blame lies with Hurney for these terrible contracts, considering JR may have strongarmed him into doing them.

I know most of the fans here love TD and want him to retire a Panther but I'd cut him before I'd make a move that would not allow us to retain Norwell/Star/Trai etc.

I didn't say that. FYI Hurney had 3 winning seasons in 11 years with a free cap. Dave had 2 winning seasons in 4 years being cash strapped. Sorry, not sorry.

With a roster majority built by hurney. QB already in place, & defensive QB already in place. It's not a fair comparison, if gettleman had to go get QB and build a defense when he got here this a completely different discussion. Who was the cam Newton and luke kuechly when hurney first got here?
