Yep. It's Happening: "#Panthers owner Jerry Richardson and Marty Hurney meeting today, league source said. Expected to be named interim GM."

If Hurney returns the Saints no longer have the most incompetent owner in the NFC South.

Dude he is returning and you bet your ass he is staying. I'm convinced this was the plan all along. This is year one we are out of cap hell and Dave gets fired...

Thanks to Gettleman the Panthers have more talent and greater depth than any other time in team history, as well as finally getting out of cap hell with money to resign core players in their prime.

So naturally it is time to bring back the very same guy who deep sixed the team for the better part of a decade with terrible draft results beyond the first round .  A former GM with a well founded reputation for unwisely signing players to cap busting, team crippling contracts.

JR and Marty... the dynamic duo of mediocre are together again.

Watch as within a matter of months they team up to undermine everything it took Gettleman 4 years to accomplish.

Suddenly, it is 2010 all over again in Pantherland!

I was so fuggin excited for the season and training camp to start. We were finally headed in the right direction as a franchise and had a competent GM that wasn't a yes man and handed out thank you contracts..............................AND THEN BAM! Richardson just took a dump on all the hopes and potential of this team for not only this year but years to come. I'm so fuggin done with this bullsh*t year in and year out. We took 5 steps back.

Bu... bu... bu... JR *loves* The Fans!

You're right. Surely he WANTED to fade into oblivion with an occasional satellite radio spot.

Assuming that he definitively couldn't get another job is simply incorrect without something to back it up. If he was as loyal to Carolina as it seems then maybe he didn't feel like going anywhere else. I'm not the one drawing a conclusion, simply pointing out a possibly-fallacious assumption.

Gettleman forced Gamble out and Jordan Gross was next.

Gamble's contract had become prohibitive, same thing that happened with CJ (as one example). CJ not only kept playing but came back; not the case with Gamble. He could have pulled a Smitty or DeAngelo if he wanted and gone elsewhere but he didn't, so it sure seems like he was done with football.

I think some people don't know the meaning of interim. He is going to hold the rudder in place to keep this ship sailing while a long term replacement is figured out. Makes sense to bring him back while (hopefully) due diligence is done to make sure the right person is hired long term. People see "Hurney GM" and the fandom forces them to panic. You said it best earlier - R.E.L.A.X. but that' not going to happen right now.

Until JR's fatherly instincts kick in and he brings the prodigal back in to the fam.

Can't recall on offseason where I was this excited about the team.  The draft FA etc all went well.  Life was too good and I should have known it would get blown up somehow.  Thanks Jerry.  If someone told me Marty fuggin Hurney would be our GM again...  Yet...here we go.

I have it on very good authority that the front office is a yield and comply atmosphere. Jerry gives twoshits about anyone's opinion.  Nice guy as long as you do as you are told and toe the line.

Wanna be a black sheep, march to a different drum?  Nice knowing you.

This may get more interesting than any of us can imagine.

I'll put it this way...one player I know that was VERY excited about being back is IM'ing and texting family members, "WTF?".

That cannot be good.

I was so excited and now it seems this is falling apart in front us before it started.

When they show JR on the Jumbotron this year I will boo like hell.  Never have before but I will in 2017.  If two or three of you will join me, we might wake him up.

I feel bad for posting this but I just can't believe the arrogance and meddling he is showing in this situation.

This is what happens when you have a rich old owner who USED TO play in the NFL. He just can not sit his senile ass down. He doesn't understand the concept of paying capable people who are in tune with the modern game, and moving out the way and let them do their thing. His ego won't let him do it.

I can only assume this is Julius Peppers.

Man, I really hope nothing happens to the locker room because of this. JR did not think this through at all.
