Yep. It's Happening: "#Panthers owner Jerry Richardson and Marty Hurney meeting today, league source said. Expected to be named interim GM."

Do I think Shaq is a rotational player? Hell no.

Has Shaq been a rotational player on this team? Yep.

No duh. Why would he start when we had All-Pro level linebackers in Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly in front of him since his rookie year. Thomas Davis only showed his age in the second half of 2016.

So yeah, Shaq is TD's heir apparent, but he obviously will be waiting a bit.

How though? Please argue why.

Easy and simple.

2013 Draft:

RD1 Star Lotulelei - One of the league's better NT's & 1 techs. Opens up lanes and uses his body to take up 2 or more defenders & space.

RD2 Kawann Short - All-Pro level DT. One of the best in the league

RD4 Kugbila - Well obv a bust.

RD5 A.J. Klein - Solid backup MLB. Played exceptionally well in his tenure here, and will likely be starting for the Saints.

RD6 Kenjon Barner - Meh

2014

RD1 Kelvin Benjamin - Jury still out. Had a stand-out rookie season, and was coming back from an ACL last year. Stat sheet shows production.

RD2 Kony Ealy - Standout 2015 season and playoff run. Clear-cut Superbowl 50 MVP had we won. Didn't improve on his campaign sadly, but what he already accomplished more than warrants his time here.

RD3 Trai Turner - 2 Time Pro Bowl RG. One of the best in the league, and will be getting a good payday soon.

RD4 Tre Boston - For a 4th rounder, he contributed as a starter. He was inconsistent, but he did more than what most other 4th rounders would do.

RD5 Bene Benwikere - Would be the clear cut starter today had he not hurt his leg and been out of shape. He was trending up since his rookie campaign and was exceptional. More than what one could ask for from a 5th rounder.

RD6 Tyler Gaffney - Patriots poached one of the GOATS.

2015

RD1 Shaq Thompson - TD's eventual replacement (hopefully). His play elevated tremendously in 2016 and looked border-line elite. Expect far more playing time from him soon.

RD2 Devin Funchess - This is his make or break year. Lots of potential shown in camp and even during the season, but didn't make the most of his opportunities. We'll see.

RD4 OT Daryl Williams - Prior to injury, was rated PFF's best rookie before the season started in 2015. Stood up against Vic Beasley and made him sackless twice in 2016. Solid value for a 4th rounder.

RD5 David Mayo - Standout depth. Provided very solid play in his debut against Tampa Bay in 2016. He'd also be a starter for any other team in the NFL.

RD5 CAP - Provided good production when he started/played. Good depth guy to keep on the roster.

2016

RD1 Vernon Butler - Injury depleted rookie season, but showed progression much like Kawann Short towards the end of 2016. A guy with a lot of potential.

RD2 James Bradberry - Did amazingly well for a rookie corner. Held his own, and was PFF's best rookie by the end of the season. No doubt he'll be something special soon.

RD3 Daryl Worley -  Many sleep on this kid, but I already wrote up on his season and what he's done. He's not far behind Bradberry in terms of talent or production. He'll be a solid corner for us.

RD5 Zach Sanchez - Yeah. He did really bad his rookie season, and will likely be beat out by Corn Elder. Nevertheless, he was just as bad as JNo coming out, so can't say much there.

RD7 Beau Sandland - No point in discussing a 7th rounder who had very little hope of contributing much anyway.

2017

Lots of potential in this draft. Can't talk on them since they haven't taken a snap in the NFL though, but lots of potential indeed.

So, tell me where our "busts" are again?

Beason-couple descent years. Short lived career....meh

Williams-solid as a part timer, never a true feature back.

Stewart-injury prone as hell

Thomas Davis-took A LOT of patience for that one to pan out. Most teams would have parted ways on 2nd ACL

Gamble-good player, not great! Better have come from Rds 2-7. Bradberry is one

history revisionist

Beason - 3× Pro Bowl (2008–2010), First-team All-Pro (2008), Second-team All-Pro (2009). Finished second in the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year voting behind Willis.

Williams - Top 5-10 rb in his prime. #1 in rb '08

Stewart - Injury prone but lethal when on the field. helped carry us to the super bowl.

Thomas Davis- we didn't cut him because he was already a great OLB prior to the injuries.

Gamble - Top 10 CB in his prime. Way too early to say Bradberry is better...

I'm all for being told to relax and being told to trust the process....

A few things that is bothering me overall. The statement that Richardson released yesterday was that "its time to go in another direction". Is it? Are we seeing that? We heard "evolution" all off-season from DG and the coaching staff, but is the owner ready to evolve?

There was a ESPN alert today saying that TD says it's "not fair to say he had a part in DG release". Like it or not TD, you did, and you and Greg 4 years from now while your retired, can look at the current Panthers franchise and with whatever state it's in, is on you.

If Richardson said it's time to move in a different direction, then why bring in a guy, who you had on a year to year basis, no commitment to his plan, that you fired, if you are moving in a different direction? If you don't have someone to be interim that's on you for letting Brandon go, letting David Morrison leave, and firing your GM two weeks before TC. That's on you for shitting the bed.

Like it not, Jerry now has confirmed, and will have a reputation of meddling. If you are a GM, or a operations person, and looking at likely jobs, are you going to an organization that will let you run YOUR business as yours, or go to a place where the owner who is hands off till he doesn't want to be, then you better do what he/she says. I'm not saying this will cause people to not want this job, but it WILL affect people if they have a choice on where they will go.

Another thing just wondering, since Marty now owns and helps operate ESPN 730, does he have a conflict of interest with taking a NFL job while working under this place?

So then back to my statement.

DG drafted a rotational player in Shaq in the 1st? Your response "No duh".

Thanks for playing.

Now once Davis is resigned Shaq will need an extension before he even sees the field as a regular. What a good use of a 1st rounder!

Now take your L like a man and take a hike like your boy DG

My fear is that if we have an even halfway decent season, Richardson will say "Hey Marty, why don't you hang around for a while?"

Considering gettleman had what looks to be a great offseason and has set up the roster very nicely I'd say that a halfway decent season or better is very likely. I'm still predicting 10+ wins.

Created an account just to let my insignificant voice be heard... screw Jerry Richardson and his family atmosphere. Bersin could get financially evaluated as the equivalent of Julio Jones right now.

Hurney was awful. Olsen should commit six fumbles in our final game of the season and it will guarantee himself a wonderful contract (e.g. Delhomme's 6 TO game vs Cardinals in 2009).
