he might come back. i don't see a real downside unless he's considered the long term answer again, which it's being made pretty clear that the interim tag is what we're looking for here. every significant move of the offseason except Greg and TD have been handled. unless you think he can mangle those two situations enough to put us in a bad spot, I don't see the hand wringing over this. he has experience and he's temporary at best.

What worries me is Jerry is going to see his old buddy back doing whatever he wants him to do and change that interm tag to permanent

I can understand that, but it's a little cart before the horse type thinking. we need someone that understands the day to day of being a GM to take this spot and not have someone make a costly blunder because they're super inexperienced and thrown to the wolves to learn on the job this late in the process. Hurney would be competent to handle day to day activities, but we'd have to operate with the understanding that JR means what he says when he says interim.

Alright I'll grant you I'm being a pessimist about the permanent Hurney solution but I said there was no way Trump would ever be president and look where we are now.

But I disagree that Hurney is a competent GM even for the short term, in fact I argue the exact opposite. He's going to do whatever Jerry tells him to and could financially fug this team done the road like he did the last time he was GM.

Look Hurney is a nice guy. I like him as a human being. Because he's nice, he's not a good GM.

It appears Gettleman's firing may have had something to do with the negotiations of TD and Olsen. If so, you basically just told TD and Olsen that we're sorry for DG being so mean, we will give you whatever you want. You then bring in the guy who has a history of handing out massive contracts to old favorites, and yes, it's a recipe for disaster.

It might not seem like much, but these two contracts could be pivotal for the future. He gives too much to these two, there is no money for Norwell or Turner, which means no offensive line, which mean Cam continues to get his ass handed to him for the remainder of his (probably short) career.

Hurney can definitely fug poo up as interim right now.
