I'm going to enjoy watching posters like you and Freefua struggle to defend this firing 2-3 years from now when we're in cap hell and we just finished going the franchise standard 7-9.

Like I'm enjoying this meltdown you and others are having like Gettleman was the perfect, prototype GM and now that he's been fired our entire organization has been doomed to burn in hell for all eternity lol?

Seriously, he is one man albeit an important one...  Our scouting dept., outside of what the Bills poached, remains mostly intact.  Furthermore, there won't be another Mr. Moneybags-GM like Hurney again.  That just won't happen.  Also, you said you'll laugh when we're in cap hell (which again, will NOT happen) and 7-9...  umm...  did we not just go 6-10?  Did we not go 7-8-1 the year before 15-1?  Lol...  Gettleman wasn't amazing.  He was an above average decision maker that still wasnt quite in the upper echelon of elite GMs - you know, the ones that consistently win EVERY YEAR...  the ones that don't shoot themselves in the foot to prove a point in a contract negotiation and cost the team an entire season due to those bad decisions.  Great GMs don't take a year off from success to develop youth...  they're trying to win every year.  They don't rest on excuses.  They retain internally-developed talent, and if they don't, they get something for them on the way out.

Yes, he made some good moves.  He also made some historically bad ones.  He talked his way out of a job, whether it be publicly or behind closed doors.  That was his flaw...

We have a great scouting dept.  All we need is someone with some semblance of respectful professionalism who is aware of actual player value weighed against ability to contribute with a final word that the staff believes in.  I don't think it will be hard to find, but I do wish if this had been brewing (which according to everything I've, read it was), that JR would've done it earlier in order to retain Beane.  But, I am not panicked.  I trust JR will get it right this time, and I respect him for having the balls to make the move.  And besides, if he is wrong, it'll be like nothing ever changed...  We have been consistent at being inconsistent, even with Gettleman, for our entire history.

But ultimately, i'm optimistic moving forward, and I have a feeling we will become a perennial power, starting with this season.

You're beyond delusional but it doesn't surprise me since you're more of a fan of Smitty and Norman than the organization. Like I said, you'll soon see it. Those who have brain cells are aware of what's coming. And it ain't the light. I just hope it was worth for you seeing our best GM in history get canned for not running this organization like a Mom and Pop store.

You mean like when I was telling the same ones with all these brain cells after last offseason that we were going to suck in 2016 because of his bad decisions?  Or that too many luxury picks would catch up with us while other positions were in dire need of talent infusion?  Or when I said Smitty would've still be the best, or at least second best receiver here until he retired while the receiving corps we had struggled and contributed to our once-in-a-lifetime franchise QB getting the poo beat out of him?

Buddy, I was here since '95...  i put no player above the organization.  I just prefer sound, reasoned decision making that puts us in the best position to win, year in and year out, above GM-idolotry and hero worship.  Yes, I strongly disagreed with the handling of Smitty and Norman, as did a lot of other "experts" around the league because they weren't the best moves for our team, our organization, or our reputation.

Anyway, I'm not hear to argue.  All I can say is, i agree with you on "soon" we'll see.  Yes, we will.  The Panthers organization was here, and had success, albeit inconsistent success, before Gettleman, and we will have more success after him.  Much more.  In the grand scheme of things, he was no different than any GM that preceded him when it came to sustained success, and when you factor in his abrasiveness with players and agents, it just wasn't worth it...  but again, we'll see.

And I'm seeing a lot of eeyore-like posts about losing faith in the front office, namely JR over this move.  Smh...  honestly, with the current turnover rate in the NFL, if other GMs had done half of the highly-publicized, unusual stunts Gettleman had, they would've been canned two years in.  I was surprised JR didn't fire him after what happened in Atlanta and subsequently after that first game against them last season.

The timing is weird to day the least, but he hasn't lost it at all, imo.  I think it was an accumulation of frustration with things he had done, especially with guys JR cared about personally.  As long as the results were there, JR left him the reins...  but last year, combined with the oversaturation of bad press from several respected vets and impending issues with two of his favorite guys in TD and Olsen, he probably caught wind of things in the negotiation process and had enough.

Even a dyed in the wool Gettleman hater like yourself has to acknowledge that this is a retarded fuging move to do a week before camp. If they didn't like the direction under Gettleman then that is fine, I couldn't care less if they wanted to go in another direction, but have a plan in place.

Dont let your heir apparent go somewhere else then fire your guy. That makes no fuging sense whatsoever.

If this ends up being the main case, I'm proud of an owner who stepped up for his guys and stated enough was enough, he treated some of our all time greats and even arguable the greatest panther ever with no respect, that's not how you run a business, you only had to treat 3 players out of what? 200 the last 4 years with respect, not exactly too hard a task. As long as the next gm is a mixture of both I'm fine, another yes man I'm agreeing with the masses

This is why something had to had happened on both sides...maybe Gman had expressed some sort of ultimatum? Maybe he was ready to go...

I agree it could be. I think he just stonewalled players a little TOO much for Jerry's liking. I think his cold as ice approach just wasn't a great fit here in the end. Jerry Richardson wants the Panthers organization to be a family first and foremost, and Dave Gettleman was just too much Savvy Yankee for him to tolerate. I thought Gettleman steered us in a great direction away from the lifetime honorary contracts of Panthers past, but  sometimes poo just isn't a great fit.

beason was traded to a team where he could start, and teh panthers got nothing in return.

he needs to stop whining.

In Beason's defense, this is the first time that I've heard this story. Was he pissed, sure. Did he throw a litle bitch fit like Smitty did and Dwill continues to do, no. He handled it like a pro.

"I moved on and wished the team well," he told WFNZ. "I was happy for the players to go to the Super Bowl."

meh, Beason is a class act and showed nothing different here.

And people want to pretend he's MeAngelo.

Half these people probably weren't around in Beason's prime.

oh my god who cares. he has absolutely nothing to bitch about

Says the guy who has been in the locker room 1 time, I mean 0 times, like you know if he has absolutely nothing to bitch about

Gettleman getting canned, as much of a Gettleman lover I was, was best for this team. You have to have somebody the players like at GM or else there is an elephant in the room, a GM can be as much as a locker room cancer as a player can

No, not a retarded move. A smart move.

Cam is like, I bet if I have an MVP season Gettleman won't want to pay me more cause he won't pay my boy Olsen
