Jon Beason joins the Gettleman hate train

Everyone says that gettleman draft some good people and yes he did draft us a few good ones..but when negotiating contracts comes around and you don't have that many draft picks what are you going to do.... 1yr vets who are on there way out the nfl are not going to cut it everytime ...or free agents that no one wants and our coaches have to coach their butts off to get min minimal results. At some point you have to show respect to that players kraft that they have worked hard to build...Not saying you have to keep everyobe but respect needs to be given and I feel that Gettle does not get that...business is business but you can not get the business withjust showing the bottomline...some decision makers care about how they are treated first.

Yep, not sure why so many have their heads in the sand on this.

Tough decisions have to be made in this business (or hell, any business for that matter) but the way Gettleman handled those decisions was poor at best and his smugness about it only made it worse. From a pure football perspective, I liked most of his moves, but it's not difficult to believe that the locker room may have been on the brink of mutiny.

Exactly. When you bring in a Panther legend like Steve Smith to release him, there should be 10 good mins of ass kissing about all the great things he did for your franchise, etc.

I'm not completely familiar with how that went down, but it certainly didn't sound good.

At the same time Gettleman has made some good moves for you guys too. It's a shitty circumstance no matter how you look at it.

oh my god who cares. he has absolutely nothing to bitch about

The funny thing is that the people reveling in Gettleman's downfall think that pointing out Beason helps their case.

"Yeah!  You tell'em Jon!  See what a gettledouche he was!"

Maybe Gettleman should have brought in Ken Lucas and Anthony Bright to sit in on Steve Ego's final counseling session and release.

I haven't seen too many people "reveling in Gettleman's downfall," as much as trying to put two and two together in order to truly understand why J-Rich fired the man.

YOU haven't done any reveling.

But if you haven't noticed the reveling, top dawg.... dude?

Like I said I'm not exactly familiar with the circumstances involving 89, and I know he was a hot head. We had an opinionated WR too once, the greatest in franchise history until 11 hangs it up. It just didn't sound like the conversation started with "thank you" is all.

This. Honestly not seeing much of any "reveling". Seen plenty of sand from the crowd who thinks Gettleman can do no wrong though and this coming from a guy who was blindsided by this and who has by and large been pretty pro-Gettleman for the most part.

It's a pretty pathetic look for the huddle that so many fans here are borderline anti-player.

The incessant Gettleman knob polishing was tolerable when we were winning. Now that he's been canned, fans are back to trashing any and all former players who speak even the slightest bit out of school toward a man who was associated with this franchise for barely 5 years.

Huddle gonna huddle.

The guy's leg was held together by scotch tape and popsicle sticks. He sucked as an outside linebacker, and he didn't want to take a backup paycut. Trading him for peanuts is all Gettleman could do. The fact that he was often injured and never returned to form proves that Gettleman was right about Beason. He can be ass hurt all he wants but facts are facts.

Gettleman did more for this franchise in 5 seasons than any coach or personnel guy ever has. There is reason for the defense. The players were bitter that Marty "Pay Everyone" Hurney wasn't still the guy in charge.

    • I complete disagree. Who is available is extremely relevant. If you have a couple of players you would be happy with and you can still get them if you trade back, you should do that in a heartbeat. Being afraid that people will lowball you next year is an odd stance. Then you just say no next year, problem solved. In this particular draft you can get a very good player at 46. But to each their own.
    • I don't think so.  Watson really screwed them up.  I see something happening, but do not know what.  Cousins could be had in a trade--but they liked Flacco when he played there.  If it were me, I would not spend the #2 pick on Sanders.  I would go after a tier 2 qb because I think Will Howard is going to start in the NFL soon, and I think Ewers was rated very high at the beginning of the year--he knows adversity and he beat out a Manning while taking Texas to 2 playoff appearances.  I am not good at picking QBs, but I think Howard's run pass option and his accuracy is going to help someone.  Stay in Ohio and play for the Browns behind Flacco--
    • After Cam at #1, there are three or four elite players and there could be a trade--If I am the Giants and I am needed a winning season badly and I have several needs, I might trade out and pick up mid first and an extra second rounder, including a QB--while nobody is going to move up to #3 for Sanders, they might for Carter or Hunter.  If the Giants then move back, Sanders could still be in play.  That could be the trade in the top 3.  New England wants Campbell and I get that; Jacksonville at #5 could move back if someone wants Graham or Jeanty.  But barring some trade, the top 4 are probably locked in. So it could be 2 hours into the draft before we get any surprises. Nice list, by the way--you nailed it.
