  1. 1. How did DG's firing go down?

    • DG was informed with no notice or argument

    • JR told DG to extend TD/Greg and DG stuck to his guns

There's two ways I see this having gone down...

1. JR just out of nowhere informed DG that he was fired, no warning or discussion about what JR's issue was with DG's work.

2. JR confronted DG about giving TD and Greg what they want and DG stuck to his guns and said something along the lines of "You hired me to do this job, either let me do my job or find someone else to do it." Or along the lines of "It's them or me ol' Jer-bear."

I think it was #1 but man would I love to be a fly on the wall in the 2nd scenario if it happened.

I could see young Panthers fans telling their Grandkids 50 years from now that the Panthers firing Dave Gettleman on July 17th 2017 was the worst decision ever made in the history of the NFL. It makes absolutely no sense when using logic and reason. And I'm not worried about this season as a result of this decision as DG has already basically put the roster in place for us to have a chance this year, but going forward this is likely to be a huge issue, especially if JR remains as the owner for much longer making ridiculous senile decisions. We can win the SB this year and it'll make the decision even worse because this is DG's roster this year. Anything going forward will be the new guy, with DG we were being set up to compete year in and year out.

So people, what do you think happened in JR's office (or wherever it went down)?

In 2067, as the last remnants of civilization squabble over the limited resources in the war torn, post apocalyptic hellscape, no one will remember what a Panthers fan is.

Also, probably neither scenario.

Probably a combo of the two if I had a to guess. I'm sure that Dave and JR had conversations about TD and Olsen and in sure they'd had conversations about how DG had handled some situations in the past. It was probably made known to Dave that JR didnt want to see these two situations go down in that fashion and when he saw that's the path they were going down...

JR: We going to give TD and Olsen 5 years/$92 million.

DG: Mr Richardson I don't think that's a good idea. They both great players but we must be mindful of the future, to sustain a winning organization. Year in and year out.

JR: Damn it, it's 1975 and this is how I'm running the show. They going get paid and f uck everything else. Matter of fact get your s hit packed and get the f uck out of here.

Richardson: "Dave... Pay all the players..."

Gettleman: "Isn't that why you hired me? To not do exactly the same dumb poo the guy before me did?"

Richardson: "HOW DARE YOU!!! THE DUMB poo THE GUY DID BEFORE WAS BECAUSE I TOLD HIM TO!!! THIS IS MY TEAM!!! YOU WILL PAY ALL THE PLAYERS AND GIVE THEM ALL HUGS AND KISSES!!!! THAT'S HOW THIS FRANCHISE WILL BE!!!!"

Gettleman: "Yeah I'm not about that life bro... I quit..."

Richardson: "NO YOU'RE FIRED, I'M TELLING PEOPLE YOU WERE FIRED BECAUSE I AM THE BOSS!!!"

Gettleman: "Whatever psycho."

I worked for a hospital chain that had 3 types of CEOs. Start up guys, hatchet guys and sustainers.  New hospitals would start with obviously the start up guys, then roll with sustainers, with struggling ones getting the hatchet guy followed by a sustainer.

Hatchet guys lasted until they pissed everyone off and then be gone to the next assignment.  Gettleman's personality reminded me of the hatchet guy. Needed for a while but not.liked enough to sustain the facility. Interestingly they didn't have guys who could do all three. So maybe Gettleman's skill set is turn around a cap and do the dirty work but he struggles to sustain success because he had poor people skills and rubbed people the wrong way including Richardson.

Maybe it was inevitable for Gettleman to move on to give way to the sustainer. He did his job but couldn't evolve which seems to be the theme.
