If you’re going to be a general manager, at some point you’re going to have to manage people generally. That’s harder than watching film.

Don't always enjoy his snark, but there is a lot of truth in that statement.  And that comes from someone who respects the hard decisions Gettleman made.  I feel like even now, Gettleman has his head held high b/c he has stuck with his principles even though it cost him his job.  And he should.

I work in sales, and the best sales guys don't necessarily make the best sales managers.  I'm sure it's the same in the world of pro football personnel.  I think Gettleman could coldly and objectively watch a player and determine what he thought the player's objective value was.  But the truth is he was passed over by the Giants many times, and I doubt it had to do with his value as a scout.  If Hurney's downfall was becoming too attached to his players, Gettleman went the exact opposite way after the SB.

Rescinding the franchise tag from Norman and then not getting Short and/or Trai, Addison, & Star. extended before their market value continued to climb was not the mark of a top-level GM.

And, the more I think about it, I believe Gettleman reminded Richardson of George Siefert or Bill Polian.

I agree completely, add in his draft history and some stupid free agency moves and the move makes sense. At first I thought the timing was poorly chosen but it might be a great time for a transition. Draft is wrapped up, free agency moves mostly done. Fresh start in time for a new season.

I didn't realize how many posters were thin skinned when it comes to personnel moves....good lord.

Actually respected DG for not canning the entire front office, and coaching staff when he got here...although I would have understood if he did.

Something doesn't smell right with this one....Morrison, the sons, now DG?

What's going on up in that head Big Cat?

the few butthurt players are all guys that wanted huge contracts they didn't deserve and we rightfully let them walk instead of caving to their demands

i guess gettleman could have found a nicer way of saying "you're not worth that much, bye" but it's a horribly stupid reason to fire a guy that has had so much success

Gettleman is a mediocre GM who got credit for Hurney's players hitting their strides. Drafting Shaq and Butler was fire worthy right their. Unless you're the Browns you draft to win now, Gettleman was to busy looking at the future. Well looks like he won't be here for that future
