If Gettleman's firing has anything to do with not extending geriatric franchise icons we're doomed

Gettleman acted bigger than the players, he didn't do sh¡t after SB50 and now he's out the door.

We need to find a middle ground between him and Hurney.

So they fire Gettleman after what was probably his best offseason as GM. Makes sense

Getting personal and sentimental is what bad leadership with franchises do. This is one of those moves, you can't appease aging players when a guy is waiting in the wing and then sacrifice young talent.  When Cams on his back and TD's getting blown by and late on tackles, remember this moment. Haha, lord help us

that smitty retirement ceremony is going to be a real tearjerker though.

you know what, let's do something revolutionary-the carolina panthers shouldn't be a football team anymore and football games shouldn't be played in bank of america stadium.  rather, the stadium and grounds should just be a shrine to every single player that's ever worn electric blue.  statues, retired numbers, one day contracts, and retirement ceremonies every sunday at 1.  then, three hours of highlights of smitty spinning footballs during 7-9 seasons and deangelo williams breaking a long one to make it 31-17 with two minutes left on the video boards.

on a serious note, if the circumstances being alleged are true this basically confirms what everybody who followed this team closely feared, which is that richardson is a meddlesome owner who values sentimentality over long term success.  and that's going to be a bigger impediment to winning a lombardi trophy than any fat dude with transition lenses who pissed off veteran players because the rot starts at the very top with a guy who can't be fired.

I don't think this is simply over Thomas Davis. I think it's a multitude of things. I also don't think it was over Gettlemen making tough calls with players, it was how he went about doing it. Many teams make tough decisions on players but I can't remember any of them having a string of pissed of players that really took issue with how their departure from the team was handled. Gettlemen was a manager, it's pretty evident he sucked at dealing with people, which means he sucked at a significant portion of his job.

In my opinion, if you want a new GM, fine, fire DG, but you do it at the right time.    The face it's happening days before training camp shows it was an emotional decision and that won't be good for us.    DG hasn't handled some things well, he doesn't get along with a lot of players, but who is better RIGHT NOW?   It's just silly timing that seems like emotion and actually makes me think this IS about Olsen/TD, if not, why not just wait till after this season?

There's a good bit of reasons to fire DG, as many as there is to keep him, but I just don't understand the TIMING.   That is what I'm really worried about.

Just realized that JR made sure to do this on a day we shouldn't forget.

Yesterday was 7/17/17

A nice round number to always reflect on later, when we ask ourselves when the fug did this organization make that horrible decision and fug everything up.

this doesn't make the team better in any tangible way and introduces chaos into the equation at a time when we don't need it.

i don't care if you have the opinion of gettleman that a poster like cpantherking or gooby has.  it makes no sense to do it right now.

This is the reason I think there has to be something more that we are not aware of currently.  I think this is bigger than simply just pissing in TD's cornflakes.  I'm not a big fan of JR as an owner but he is not one to simply make off the hip moves like this.  I think the organization needs to get out in front of this soon and provide a more in depth explanation regarding the decision and the timing.  The team owes this explanation to PSL owners IMO.

Yea he fires him so he doesn't cut TD. That's what it seems like. Now all the players know that they can run to JR if Rivera or any staff member doesn't do as they say. Just like they said Smith did. It's truly clear now that JR doesn't give a poo about winning.

You mean like firing his own sons right before a season. No he would never do that.
