If Gettleman's firing has anything to do with not extending geriatric franchise icons we're doomed

that's basically what's going to happen

no gm with any kind of special ability to evaluate talent is going to see this as a viable place to make history

we're going back to the dark ages. back to 2009-2012

and one could just as easily say we are going back to the debacle at tackle and our franchise OB contracting Carrism while seeing stars on his back this upcoming season...

Matt Kalil is an overpaid LT that has been injured and played like complete poo ever since his rookie season and then on the other side there is a very real possibility that a rookie could start at RT.and Darryl Williams is our young star rising?

Shula and Cam need a GM who can produce a set of solid tackles to win.

and DG aint that GM and never will be...

gettleman's done as good as you possibly can to bring talent in while most of his tenure was spent cleaning the mess the former paradigm of leadership left this team in

and contrary to what playing madden will have you believe, you cannot have pro bowlers at every single position, and a smart coach/coordinator would know how to mask the personnel limitations of the team. longer developing pass plays leaves you open to getting your pass protection exploited. this is something shula and ron have pretty much refused to implement a mitigating play design for.

Lots of rumors floating around that Gettleman didn't want to extend Thomas Davis. Lots of rumors floating around Jerry Richardson refused to take no for an answer - they're our guys, they're franchise icons, and we pay them no matter what because we have a heart and a soul. Gettleman refuses to play that game, almost to a fault. See: Smitty and Josh Norman.

If Jerry Richardson really told Gettleman to extend Davis or walk away, this franchise is in awful shape and we should all be very concerned. Every good franchise is good because it's heartless and recognizes that good business often means refusing to manufacture storybook endings for their own sake. We have grown into a viable contender year in and year out largely because of our gradual transition away from that type of franchise, trimming the contract fat and introducing a performance-based culture. We're lean and mean and poised for success for the next half decade.

Whatever you thoughts on Gettleman are, if Jerry Richardson really threw that away so he could cap his waning years with a feel-good contract extension we are going to have a turbulent couple of years and you should prepare for that.

What JR needs to figure out (and perhaps Gettleman should have) is when their time is done on the field and they are a Franchise and fanbase Icon and treasure..... That's when you make it attractive for them to transition to the Front Office or Coaching Staff. Thomas Davis and Steve Smith should never have been or become anything other than a Panther.

I don't know a winning franchise that has not told a old player to take a hike. People naturally assume it's Dave that people are running away from but it could be JR.

In real professional life things like rubbing people the wrong way matter. But you don't win football games by playing nice with everyone. DG may have been a terrible human being, who knows but he built a team that could win a Super Bowl. This franchise is sad.

I agree. Especially when dealing with people that make millions playing sports. May be I'm old school, but F feelings in this context. These are grown a$$ millionaires.

I mean the objective is to win games and win a championship right? Sometimes I really wonder of the fans care about winning more than the front office or players. I wonder if the laugh is on us sometimes

Davis and Olsen aren't worth giving an extension? But bringing pep back is?

Olsen has 2 years left, a smart GM doesn't renegotiate unless he is forced.  So... no he doesn't, that's how contracts works.  I think Olsen is the second most valuable player on the team, but if not redoing his deal can help us upgrade elsewhere, I'm all for it.  Sorry it sounds harsh, but you can't throw money at people you like just cuz.

This is a business and these guys are set for life if they don't live like retards, let's not forget that.

Pep is a one year deal.

Players get old and get replaced.  It is what it is and our next GM will know that the players run the show, not the GM.  This is a recipe for a Cleveland/Washington style franchise.

I might just have to go into a rabbit hole until JR is gone.

I'll join you. Jerry completely overstepped on this one and you know we'll never hear an actual reason from him... Just more stink eye while he sits in his box and tries not to fall asleep at the games

agreed we shouldn't break the bank for TD and Olsen, but I think 2015 is the prime example of how important veteran leadership is to a teams success. Guys like Tillman, Harper, Cotchery, Allen, Finnegan were all huge reasons the Panthers made it to the superbowl. All those guys were gone in 2016, and look what happened.

If there were talks of not extending TD and Olsen after their current contracts expire, then I don't blame Jerry. If DG hasn't learned from his mistakes yet, then what more has to happen for him to finally swallow his ego and realize, talent alone will not win you a lombardi.

Man, when nctarheel0619 actually agrees with the logical posters... it's bad. Guys, WTF do we do now? This was fueled on nothing but emotion from Richardson.

I think you're putting to much certainty on speculation we still don't know we have big asses but they're just that ...>>>>> speculation

We're lucky if TD has one more good season in him so why extend him?

We are lucky to have him...if keeping human ice age Roman Harper was a good move...I have no problem keeping Davis for one more year...just for luck...sign a decent back loaded deal he never finishes...this isn't rocket surgery...team morale and a positive future outlook for the youngsters...

we had TD for one more year....and Olsen. This is a total clusterfyck. But Hey, what The Big Cat wants, The Big Cat gets. I only hope he can live with it. The shield says he can.

meh...
