If Gettleman's firing has anything to do with not extending geriatric franchise icons we're doomed

Basically he's worth more than he's being paid. Business is business, the panthers owe him his worth, right?

But that's the way contracts work.

What if they re-negotiated, gave him 11M, and then in the new offense he only catches 50 passes for 700 yards and 6 TDs.

Do they get to re-re-negotiate and get their money back?

Or should a contract be a contract?

JR knows he probably doesn't have that much time left, and can't stand seeing TD being shown the door. We all know how he feels about TD, he's made that known in the past. If that's the actual reason for the firing, it's an incredibly selfish and short-sighted move. Then again, JR may know that his window is equally short and would rather not have to face the kind of realities needed for long-term success.

Hey, as far as JR is concerned, a bunch of players won't be getting a SB ring now, but they'll always have TDs statue!

DG might have done 2 press conferences a year and other than that he kept to himself, his coaches, and the team.

And all y'all want to do is keep talking about this massive ego he had and that that was the problem.

(P.S. They all have egos... players, coaches, executives.  My point is that DG's ego existed and had an affect on the team (just as coach and player egos affect the team), but to pretend it was anything unusual in the annals of football history is just a joke.  And a really weak effort to invent a theory or excuse.)

Just because Dave wasn't a TV/interview guy doesn't mean he didn't have ego and wanted to make this a "Gettlemen" team.

Dave ain't here for a reason.  Until shown otherwise.....Dave wanting a Dave team was he reason.   GM needs to cater to his coach and adapt based on what he has at his disposal.  I don't think he was up to par in that regard.  He just wanted to turn us into his vision

NE can get away with stuff because they win.

If you're a nice "family" team, you don't win.

So you hire a hard-ass GM that runs the team as a business, with a bottom line on talent and finances, and then you win.

But if "family" gets hurt feelings because of the hard-ass, the hard-ass gets fired.

Then you become a nice "family" team that doesn't win.

May the circle be unbroken.

I don't disagree that I'm not thrilled with his firing. But you can't take two of your cornerstones and treat them the same as udfa. Sure, consistency is great, but hard to do.

At the end of the day, you can have players feeling respected and slightly worried about the new guy taking their jobs.

Every GM that will work for JR now knows that if he wants to make a personnel move on this team, that's no longer his call.  He first has to know whether or not the owner will support him on that move.

Which makes the GM a yes-man instead of a general manager.

Gentleman  couldnt  ever find a quality  LT after encouraging Gross to retire.as a result the left handed Byron Bell sliding over from RT to the left side was a sight for sore eyes.as of right now  our RTs are just about as raw as Nate Chandler was during the infamous debacle at tackle season. .and our franchise QB and the catalysts to our offense has taken a freaking beaten during Gettleman tenure.and no matter how Voth or anyone else want to twist the truth  that  LT that  Gettleman courted and even  left an offer on the table for miracoulsly due to the stroke of luck decided to take his services to Tampa instead.. .btw everyone Tampa cut  that same LT the following season.we the Panthers whom went 15-1 just a couple seasons ago  LOST the Superbowl  bexause of our tackles.we also had a losing season last year bexause of once again our tackles my friends.Oher is well done r.so then  Gettleman decides to throw big time money at our iconic centers little big brother who has has looked like a bum year in and year  ever since his rookie season.

we are on the brink of another debacle at tackle if you honestly look at our situation without a blind eye...just saying

To a degree. Let's play devil's advocate for a sec.

Say you tell TD, I'm not going to do your contact until the off-season. It's something like "ok, I'll play my butt off for a better number." That makes sense. If you make a comment about age, condition and Shaq, that's going to rub one of your biggest leaders the wrong way.

Or you tell Olsen, sorry boss, you signed the deal. Play or pout! At least we have Shaq, but we have a very bare cubbard of tight ends. If Olsen sits out, who will take his place? He has some real leverage.

Again, the Pats have the Brady benefit. Play with him, take all the poo, get your trophy and be a winner. Do we have that here? Got to win a championship to get that benefit.

These two situations could have been handled well and quietly. Sadly, DG doesn't do that part of things. That guy is in Buffalo.

As long as players can run to Daddy Jerry, nothing about any future player negotiations will be handled well or quietly if the players don't get what they think they deserve.
