If Gettleman's firing has anything to do with not extending geriatric franchise icons we're doomed

He had a lot to do with the superbowl run the year before.

I'd argue he had more to do with last season's debacle than the SB run.

Cam had a MVP run (Hurney guy) with very limited talent around him.   He was paired with a great D that featured great seasons by 3 Hurney guys.

He didn't get and there way and prevented any huge holes from existing.  Which isn't asking a lot.

The next season he made huge holes and didn't address the few issues from the SB run

To be clear I don't agree with the move, but I have to think it was a slow burn here, with things he kept doing over time could have rubbed people the wrong way, including vets, coaches, and owner.  I definitely think Ron should have been axed before Gettleman but who knows.  It's shocking but I'm hoping we'll find a good replacement (if there is one).

In real professional life things like rubbing people the wrong way matter. But you don't win football games by playing nice with everyone. DG may have been a terrible human being, who knows but he built a team that could win a Super Bowl. This franchise is sad.

Stfu you make sure your people are taken care of especially if they took care of you for YEARS. Y’all are forgetting also that seldom under gentleman have we gotten a LEGIT free agent interested in coming to play for us. He was running the team like it’s either my way or the highway and that kind of poo gets around. His drafting was solid, yes. His bargain bin free agent shopping was solid but his handling of players and their personalities were terrible. Not many of you are willing to admit it but he was kind of a douche.

Where was he supposed to get the money to pay all of those "legit" FA's? You don't get out of cap hell by overpaying every "name" player that stupid fans scream for. And FTR, guys like Peanut and Jarrett did nothing but gush about coming to this team.

JR knows he probably doesn't have that much time left, and can't stand seeing TD being shown the door. We all know how he feels about TD, he's made that known in the past. If that's the actual reason for the firing, it's an incredibly selfish and short-sighted move. Then again, JR may know that his window is equally short and would rather not have to face the kind of realities needed for long-term success.

I hope this isn't the reason, but it may be.  I love TD and Greg Olsen as much as the next guy... but signing them to big contracts at their age is iffy at best.  I'm not saying they don't deserve it, but if I were DG I'd be nervous about doing it.

If this was the reason behind this, then he was only looking out for the future of the franchise.  Maybe JR doesn't care about what happens after he's no longer on this earth, but that's not how decisions should be made.

I swear this feels like a dream.

This sheds a whole new light on Hurney, honestly. If he got the same "extent Jake and all my boys or you're fired" only to be fired when the team collapsed, then Richardson is honestly a fuging dreadful owner.

It does have quite a bit to do with this but also he wasn't a people person. Beane did most of the day to day work, was doing more and more in the draft room, scouting and so forth. But make no mistake, beane made this ship run when he left it just compounded the problems gettleman has in this type of organization. Jerry likes the TD and Olsens to be taken care of and Gettleman wasn't going to play ball was the last straw if you will.

That's what I've gathered so far.
