If Gettleman's firing has anything to do with not extending geriatric franchise icons we're doomed

This is what I don't understand about some of these posters who are jumping for joy. Do they think this alternative is going to be better? A yes man? I'd rather have someone who has a plan and a vision even if to a fault and actually has the balls to go up against JR then someone who is a bitch. Because we're about to get a bitch managing this team.

Now if JR actually hires a guy that isn't that, then good. But precedent has already been set. The fact Hurney is even being mentioned throughout articles and sports journalists is fuging crazy.

well they've been screeching for years that gettleman is some putrid cocktail of immeasurable arrogance, incompetence, greed, and hubris and that any moron who knew what he had in our franchise quarterback could win a lombardi with one hand tied behind his back.  so yeah, in their world, the team is automatically better.  hooray.

Please do, oh great GM, set out the plan in detail, step by step, how DG was supposed to fix the OT problem under the budget constraints he was under his first 3 years that, in your opinion, he did not do.

Dis gon' be gud.

we'd still be carrying anthony collins' cap hit and trying to unload dorial green-beckham to get something back for the first rounder we sunk into him if half the couch GMs on this board had their way.

Just realized that JR made sure to do this on a day we shouldn't forget.

Yesterday was 7/17/17

A nice round number to always reflect on later, when we ask ourselves when the fug did this organization make that horrible decision and fug everything up.

#NeverForget777

Trust me on this, mark it down, call in the marker later if you will:

When things start going bad (and they will), the same ol' Usual Suspects are going to blame THAT on David Gettleman too.

And when that happens and the future team superstars just can't wait to walk out the door to another franchise a la Peppers, guess what?  They'll blame THAT on David Gettleman too.

Being a Madden GM means never having to be responsible for being wrong.

So, by that logic, if we don't win the SB this year whoever is in charge should be immediately fired, right?

lol...have you seen the same Matt Kalil contract that everyone is shaking their head at  while all at the stame time murmuring what a dumbass?

he was willing to match Tampa for that LT that no one remembers anymore...

and then encourages Gross to retire which sets the stage for the debacle at tackle

what about the years we wasted a roster spot grooming Foucoulat?

once again Darryl Williams is our rising star?

plain and simple DG gigged up big time at tackle

I was critical of Gettleman at times, mainly about the OL, because if we're being just totally honest it was holding us back in one way or another at times throughout his entire tenure here. I'm sorry but that's just facts. But I still was on board with him as our GM on the whole. However, you guys acting like jilted lovers over this throwing anyone you can find onto burning hot coals while completely absolving Gettleman of any blame whatsoever are delusional as fug.

You know this place has gone downhill when even Mike Minter is reduced to nothing more than washed up fodder to throw under the bus because muh Gettleman got canned.

i've been here since 06 and i watched the 06 season. if anybody reduced mike minter to washed up fodder it was hurney and JR trotting him on the field even though he didn't have it anymore.

and i'm sorry if i don't share your nostalgia romanticizing, lotus-eating idealist view of what this franchise should be, but if a guy's performance is declining, whether or not he continues to start for us on the field shouldn't be up to the emotions of an 81 year old man who doesn't have a great football mind. gettleman had the foresight and really wanted to make the moves that made the most sense and now he's gone. the next guy will likely be a puppet for JR, acting out his chosen directives while taking care of the day to day operations that a man of JR's age just cannot oversee.

JR's insistence on keeping aging and injured players here and not fostering a competitive environment with a more accountable culture is consistent with history and this latest move which to me is as bad if not worse than the delhomme extension in '09. the reason i bring it up with minter is bc not many ppl on here were fans at the time or aware of the transactions going that far back. and he wasn't the only one obviously, but bringing up the paragon of this argument (delhomme 09) is a cliche atp. i can go further and mention rucker, maake kemoeatu, ken lucas, dan morgan, deshaun foster, jeff otah, james anderson, kris mangum.

In other words, you don't have an answer, just more questions.

Nowhere have I said we should keep underpreforming players around until they are collecting social security. You're on an extreme end of the spectrum to prove your point, and you don't need to be dude. I get it.

In regards to Richardson, I think there is without a doubt a discussion to be had about just what kind of an owner he has been and how it affects our franchise both positively and negatively as we have often seen. Ultimately I think that's where all this ends up, squarely on JR. So all this derping about greedy players is just misplaced angst.

    • They can’t reasonably fire a rookie head coach who was saddled with one of the worst first overall QBs of all time. And at times made said QB look decent to serviceable.  If the team was 3-11 at this point next season, fire everyone.

    • Weird things also happen when you include garbage time games in your averages. Chicago and Washington he came in with like 2 min left.  The remaining 9 games which he started, 1,737 yards, 193 yards/game. Still low but let’s all be clear the number reported isn’t correct.
