If Gettleman's firing has anything to do with not extending geriatric franchise icons we're doomed

You mean like firing his own sons right before a season. No he would never do that.

Was there ever a reason given for this?  Was it a quick decision by Jerry or something that was brewing for a long time?  Just because the dirty laundry was not out there for all to see doesn't mean that there weren't things going on behind the scenes.  A guy that makes an unexpected move every decade (can't remember when the boys were let go but it's been a while) doesn't make him an irrational shoot from the hip guy.

Might be wrong. I just think there are many other moving parts.

The difference is winning and we have had the most success when JR was not making quick decisions. Our front office is in shambles right now.

that smitty retirement ceremony is going to be a real tearjerker though.

you know what, let's do something revolutionary-the carolina panthers shouldn't be a football team anymore and football games shouldn't be played in bank of america stadium.  rather, the stadium and grounds should just be a shrine to every single player that's ever worn electric blue.  statues, retired numbers, one day contracts, and retirement ceremonies every sunday at 1.  then, three hours of highlights of smitty spinning footballs during 7-9 seasons and deangelo williams breaking a long one to make it 31-17 with two minutes left on the video boards.

on a serious note, if the circumstances being alleged are true this basically confirms what everybody who followed this team closely feared, which is that richardson is a meddlesome owner who values sentimentality over long term success.  and that's going to be a bigger impediment to winning a lombardi trophy than any fat dude with transition lenses who pissed off veteran players because the rot starts at the very top with a guy who can't be fired.

lol remember the endless "THEY NEED A STATUE WHEN THEY RETIRE" threads? or that one pc during the summer of 07 when minter was bawling at the podium? yea thanks for stepping down voluntary after basically rotting on the field the season before bc the team would've basically let you stay there forever.

This is what I don't understand about some of these posters who are jumping for joy. Do they think this alternative is going to be better? A yes man? I'd rather have someone who has a plan and a vision even if to a fault and actually has the balls to go up against JR then someone who is a bitch. Because we're about to get a bitch managing this team.

Now if JR actually hires a guy that isn't that, then good. But precedent has already been set. The fact Hurney is even being mentioned throughout articles and sports journalists is fuging crazy.

They had a dysfunctional relationship with each other and had two differing management styles that was causing problems.

You can tell the age of posters on this board by their reactions to this news. The ones who are celebrating are post cam fans and have not seen what blind loyalty to Veterans does to a franchise.

Those of us who have been around a while know this is a joke and just going down the same paths this pathetic franchise has always taken.

If you're such a veteran fan you should know that we've never had back to back winning seasons and that didn't change with Gettleman being here either. It was the same poo of being good one year and bad the next. We also had a super bowl appearance before he got here. Stop treating him like a god, it's more like the ones distraught sound like post Gettleman fans.

You can keep saying we've never had back to back winning seasons and it doesn't change the fact that DG was the most successful GM we've ever had. Why are you casually dismissing the fact that there is a HUGE chance we get a worse GM then DG?

and one could just as easily say we are going back to the debacle at tackle and our franchise OB contracting Carrism while seeing stars on his back this upcoming season...

Matt Kalil is an overpaid LT that has been injured and played like complete poo ever since his rookie season and then on the other side there is a very real possibility that a rookie could start at RT.and Darryl Williams is our young star rising?

Shula and Cam need a GM who can produce a set of solid tackles to win.

and DG aint that GM and never will be...

Please do, oh great GM, set out the plan in detail, step by step, how DG was supposed to fix the OT problem under the budget constraints he was under his first 3 years that, in your opinion, he did not do.

Dis gon' be gud.

I mean, a Pro Bowl LB is a geriatric franchise icon

Honestly I'm really disappointed in some long time posters right now.

This place has often been anti-player when it suits certain fans though. I remember the circle jerk back during the lockout when people were turning JR's condescending negotiations pie chart into memes.
