Bill Voth: Jerry Richardson Not Liking Where TD Talks Are Going. Prefers To Ruin Our Future And Fire GM.

Goddamnit I knew it. I swear this is no way to run a successful franchise. As much as I love TD, I will really resent him costing us years of potential success if he got Gettelman fired. He always said he was about the team and all the loyalty he had been shown... Maybe Dave was fuging up and not even talking with TD?

I don't know I'm torn by my respect for what Gettleman has built and love of guys like TD, Greg, and in the past the way Smitty was handled.

It it comes out that this is the gist of what happened, the Panthers will be a huge NFL laughing stock.

Gonna disagree OP.

T. Davis shouldn't get a big time extension. But he deserves to stay a Panther forever. What he embodies is more than football.

If DG wasn't going to back down and try to release him then that just speaks to his own ego. JR is the owner of this team and he has the right to make that call. Mind you this is an exception not the rule.

And Dave did screw up Josh Norman release. It was handled unprofessionally. Luckily he did draft Bradberry but that was after the fact.

Jerry Richardson has dealt with GMs refusing to work with players before. Remember when George Seifert decided to cut Steve Beuerlein, and JR extremely reluctantly went along with it? If Gettleman is going to continue getting rid of players (Steve Smith and Josh Norman, now Olsen and Davis) with no real replacements ready (Thompson is great, but is he ready?) then JR is likely seeing ghosts of that Beuerlein move.

I'm sorry. I love TD to death. But football is supposed to be a business, and we have a perfectly young promising talent in Shaq Thompson in the wings.

So when I saw this as the primary reason, it's safe to say our window just got a whole lot shorter:

With likely loaded contracts going to aging vets when we have young talent in the wings (and who we'll probably let go due to such), I don't like how the franchise looks going forward.

Jerry Richardson will likely install a "yes man" GM who will give out loaded contracts to guys he likes and ruin our future. Even though Gettleman just had one of his best offensive drafts of his career, and is one of the best at evaluating talent.

This firing makes no sense at all.

As much as I disliked Gettlemen, the firing now clearly shows exactly what you're saying, and Voth is saying.  I hate to say it, but we're clearly fuged.

Would love to know exactly hwhat at unfolded behind the scenes, but it seems blatantly obvious that the situation with TD and/or Olsen is the catalyst here. Why else would you fire a GM in mid-July? You almost never hear of front office changes this time of year. The draft and primary free agency are long gone and training camp is right around the corner. Great, introduce a HUGE distraction heading into camp and have front office chaos when you're trying to evaluate your roster and trim down to your final 53 while also looking at the guys other teams are releasing. Not to mention the fact that we let the heir apparent walk out of the building earlier this off-season. Had this move even been on the radar at that point, I find it difficult to believe Beane would've taken the Buffalo job. All of this points to a very sudden, knee-jerk reaction type of decision here.
