we kept hurney around for a decade even though he was complete garbage, then gettleman gets fired one season removed from the best year in franchise history, with the team looking setup so well for years to come

Was just about to say this.  I'm sure the fact that TD and Olsen weren't happy about their contracts and becoming potential hold outs didn't sit well with Big Cat.  We know Dave has no emotion when it comes to players and contracts.  Business is business, but Big Cat runs this organization like family.  So after the Steve Smith thing, and the JNo thing, it appears JR had enough and was not about to allow 2 key players to walk due to a stubborn GM.

Pure speculation: vets got into Richardson's ear about extensions and he didn't like GMan playing hardball.

Sad because a winning franchise like the Patriots takes all of the emotion out of a business decision.

This is shocking, one of our better GM's in franchise history fired after the draft and right before the start of the season?!

The Panthers have a lot of explaining to do. I really hope the reason is better than he hurt players feeling by not handing out crazy Hurney contracts for past successes.

I hoped our franchise had turned the corner and was on a path toward sustained success. This is not a good look.

Ron should have been shown the door before Gettleman.  I'm shocked and thought this was some kind of clickbait joke.  Gettleman showed he was pretty set in his ways and didn't show much wiggle room on that.  Maybe that had a bit to do with it.  He clearly didn't need to be let go so soon.  Wow.

I agree with hotsauce you can't just not pay players of their caliber. We still got time to find a OC don't let Shula tank this season.
