Gettleman engineered 2017's team going forward. All the credit will go to him.

I am trying to understand those two sentences. You are saying we have little talent now but will overachieve (see 2015) or we still have talent despite.... well i dont even know how to phrase it to ask. 2015, they rose to a greater level with DG, I just see contradictions all over the place here.

Hurney drafted the best players on this team. As long as Cam Newton is on that field when we have the ball and Luke is out there when we don't then Gettlemans credit should be taken with a grain of salt.

Rosters are made up of 53 plus players. Not one, not ten, not twenty.

Hurney's rosters generated a poor winning percentage over eleven seasons. Gettleman's generated three straight division titles.

As to inherited players, take a look back at some of the names Hurney inherited (guy named Smith, for example).

You're spinning, and not doing a particularly good job of it.

Well to be honest, Hurney drafted Cam Newton because Andrew Luck didn't come out of College. A lot of people will be pissed off at that statement and I'm by no means justifying that drafting Luck would have been better for the Panthers if it happened. Let's look at the big picture here and see that Hurney was on the decline severely. Not only were his first round picks highly questionable, but this clown contemplated trading out of the first round in 2011 to get Jimmy Clausen in the first round!!! Holy poo! I mean read the headlines for that upcoming draft before Luck decided staying another year at Stanford would be to his benefit. It would probably go something like "Two franchise Quarterbacks are about to come out of College" I'm willing to bet my 401k on the fact that Cam and Luck would have been picked 1 and 2.

So it's not like Hurney looked ahead and said oh man I've gotta draft Cam Newton. Newton, while a tremendous college QB and athlete may have taken everyone by storm when he only played 1 year of real College football in the SEC and won everything that mattered and every award, but everyone knew about Andrew Luck. So his incompetence as a GM is well noted with someone that has a pair of eyes. He drafted Newton because he saw him as a "put asses in the seat and save my job" kind of Quarterback. Newton coming out of College was exciting. He had to make it up for his atrocious 2010 draft, let's not pretend like Hurney is the almighty architect of the 2015 Carolina Panthers.

 

 Gettleman dug our asses out of the trash can, Steve Smith hated Cam Newton.  It may have not been admitted at first, but you can tell now there is definitely animosity between the two of them. Not on Cam's part I must note... Steve had to go wether anyone wants to admit it or not. The fact that they don't want to admit it says to me they're weak minded and don't have the business making decisions like Gettleman did. Dave had huge testicles but his number one downfall was trying to get way too cute with his veteran players. He's done it with a few players but Josh Norman truly comes to mind.  That was just a porous decision. His bull headedness to seek a true left or right Tackle really tells the story as well.  So both GMs had flaws and there is no such thing in this world as a perfect GM. You might say Belichick but he's made some brash assumptions that certain players would work, or any player can work in his system and he's been sadly mistaken. The reason he is so great today is mainly because of Brady. That is a whole different subject though.

Actually at one point in the 2010 season (my first year on this message board) allot of users were expecting us to draft luck until he declared he was going to stay in school.
