basically JR wants to play backseat GM. Having one of the best winning percentages in the league isn't good enough for our GM to keep his job apparently, JR has to agree with every single move as well

I'm not even sure it's "backseat" at this point.

Time for Bill Polians return

That's interesting. Could he be viewed as a cross between G-man and Hurney?  Polian's and J-Rich's egos cannot coexist within the Carolinas. Humility is not either's strong suit.

I think no truly good GM will ever work with JR. Even Dave probably took the job because he was older.

The Panthers have been run like a Mom and Pop organization for most of their existence... at least until Gettleman came in and started to run the team like a modern sports franchise.

Any GM taking the job at this point won't be taking the job to work with JR, they will be taking the job despite his presence.

Biggest draw would be taking over a talented team with a plan to quickly win a Super Bowl, give out some ill advised contracts to popular players on their last legs and bolt within a year or two before it all implodes.

Where's TD and Olsen going to be in 2-3 years when they are retired but we fired a competent GM over butthurt feelings

If we cut both of those players what would have happened would we have been able to compensate truly without them? we can speculate all we want but none of us know what really went on and that's the truth in this I think of it if we would've lost both of them and then I compared to losing our GM now it's a distraction but as far as on the field what does it really do if we have two less players or if we have those players and we have one less GM. Sorry if this makes no sense I'm kind of drunk

No respectable GM bolts after a few years. It's not a flashy job like a head coach. I've been saying it for years that JR was cheap and only cared for his pockets. This is just another example of keeping jerseys sales up. Most of the front office has bolted because they know the owner is terrible.

Don't ask me to get all puppy-eyed about the feelings of millionaires when for the last 10 years I've seen about 30% of my co-workers get the perp-walk out the door carrying a box of their personal items from their former desk.

Don't ask me to shed tears for poor Steve Smith's feelings when to this day I still see young men who might be getting paid 25-30K per year in their job coming home for the final time in flag-draped boxes.

So my answer to your question is I couldn't give any LESS of a fug how it was "handled" if, at the core of the matter, it was the right move to improve the team.

I just don't get this worshiping of players. Steve Smith carried us blah blah blah, well guess what? He didn't do it for free. He got paid a good amount to do what he was supposed to do. I mean Tolbert joining in on this tells you all you need to know about the what being held accountable meant to ex panthers.
