Dave Gettleman FIRED as Panthers GM

I ultimately blame shitty North Carolina and their refusal to legalize weed. If Gettleman had been able to toke up, I think he would have mellowed out, been less of an asshole, and we could have moved forward with him.

However, we would occasionally have to deal with him attempting to select "a Cook Out tray" during the NFL draft.

I don't disagree. I like what Gettleman has done, I'm just giving an open mind to the change.

Gettleman saved this organization, took us from below mediocare in almost every way back to the Super Bowl. And made us one of the most cap healthy teams in the past 5 years. Not to mention he's a drafting genius. We all knew he was 1-2 years from retirement. He really did something to piss JR off.

I take it this got personal and JR is probably Senile.

I liked, DG, I don't agree with HOW he handled some things, but I think he was the right GM for this business era of the NFL, and roster management.

TD 34 turning 35, and already VISIBLY showing decline, and Olsen 32-33 with two years left making about 7-8 million per. These are not guys who need extensions.

Johnson took less, Pep took less, Davis can take less, especially when the expectation is to transition to Shaq.

We just lost the best GM we've ever had because he hurt players feelings. Jerry is too emotional and familial to run a successful franchise. We're stuck in place until he's gone

"We've ever"

I want this organization to stride for better.

Being better than Marty f'n Hurney isn't an accomplishment. A duck could sit in the GM chair and be better than Hurney.

I know you liked DG but we can do better. I'll leave it at that.

But you're right, if JR is calling the shots than it don't matter who the GM is we're f*cked

so it seems by those tweets dave wasn't like much by vet players

looked like TD and Olsen where going to get cut and JR put a stop to it

I don't believe Dave is that dumb for a second. Ya maybe he didn't want to give them extensions after a loosing season(let me ask you, which GM would?)

There is a hell of a lot more to this.

The legend of Gettle grows, page by page, post, by post.

gettleman pays people based on the value they bring to the team and if they want some absurd contract he lets them walk. that's how literally every consistently successful franchise does business but JR would rather be nice to guys he likes rather than run a franchise the way you need to see continued success

Don't forget that JR has the undying support of the Super-Fans of the overpaid veterans (while young talent walks).

I think the timing is pretty obvious based on what has happened the past couple of weeks.

First you get stories about Olsen and Davis wanting extensions.

Then you get Smitty basically saying he didn't want anything to do with us until some changes were made.

Then you have world renowned cry-baby MeAngelo Williams throwing shade at us again as far as teams that shouldn't call him.

All those arrows point directly at one target. The GM.

It may not be what the official story is, but I am pretty sure it was at least a consideration.
