Dave Gettleman FIRED as Panthers GM

This has to be over the way Gettleman treats players. It's 2017, not 1950, you can't treat everyone like they are a bought and paid for commodity which is exactly how GMan looks at his players. Sure you need to be able to make tough decisions, but the whole "it's just business" BS doesn't always fly.

I'm not a reactionary fan.

Gettleman has been one of the best possible things to happen to this organization since its inception. He has managed to set us up for the future and to win the present. He wasn't perfect but no GM is. He was a vast departure from Hurney (overpaid middle of the road guys, doomed us to call hell and was god awful at drafting outside the first round).

And now that we are on the brink of the best season in Panthers history, we fire the guy who brought us here with no fuging replacement with 8 days to go till D-Day.

I'm a huge fuging Panthers fan, biggest fan of a single team out of any person I know. Hell I come to this message board nearly every day of my life. I thought the only thing that would ever get me to stop rooting for the Panthers was a move.

This decision has made me question everything about this organization. JR just put himself in the conversation for the worst, over meddling owner in sports.

I get he wanted TD and Olsen re-signed, but you just mortgaged the immediate future of this team for sustained success. If we suck ass down the road JR deserves full 100% blame.

This exactly.  Makes JR seem like an owner happy to sell jerseys, not win.

And for this to happen, I'm sure there have been some talks with TD (assuming it has to be him) about his contract. I guess Gettleman wasn't willing to budge...because I imagine Olsen would've gotten a raise. TD? Not so much. This is absolute lunacy, and seems like nothing but a power move by JR to protect fan favorites at the sake of the team.

Players knew Gettleman looked at them like chumps no matter what they've done for the team. See, Norman, Smitty

This is why. Good move. Period.

There's a middle ground to be had somewhere. Unfortunately for us Panthers fans, it appears Gettleman or JR (or both) couldn't find it because they're both incredibly stubborn people.

It's going to fun seeing the users on this board that for the last few years have always defaulted in an argument to "Dave Gettleman is always right" try to actually think for themselves.

The guy got us out of cap hell and just had probably one of the best drafts ever. He's been pretty damn good. If this is over a contract to TD, then this is ridiculous. I love the guy, but the NFL is a business.

Ruh roh. Trouble in paradise. Also, welcome back Smitty!

Oh, veterans with a grudge (past and present) are probably celebrating.

Because they certainly won't be the one's left holding the bag.  The younger players and the rookies will be the ones that pay for it down the road.

Guys calm down. The core of this team wasn't created by Dave, it was instead created by his predecessor. I know you guys have a lot invested in Gettleman being some sort of genius, but the big pieces were not brought in by Dave. We can still win and move forward as a franchise as long as we can find someone that negotiate decent contracts.

This cost us a Super Bowl shot??

LMFAO. How many plays did Gettleman call in 2015? How many downs did he play? Will this have an effect on the FUTURE of our franchise? For sure(TBD whether positive, negative or neutral). But we are gonna suck because a guy that makes personnel decisions is gone?? How is that logical? Do you all really think our team is gonna be so distraught they basically just stop playing??

WTF
