I'll say it again. Last year teams in pass defense had to cover Olsen, KB and Ginn and nothing else. We didn't throw to WR3, TE2 or RBs.

This is SO true.  It might be an interesting stats project for me to compare receptions by the combo of TE2. WR3 & RBs around the league for last season.  My guess is that Panthers would rank very near the bottom.  Many weeks it was as if Funchess & Dickson were not on the field, even though they were.  They were often totally absent on the stat sheets.  Also, Cam & Stew's chemistry was off in terms of receptions.  Not that we've ever thrown that much to Stew, but last year when we tried it, most times it didn't work.  Stew had a pretty low reception % even with very few targets, IIRC.  Fozzy was about the only player apart from Greg, Ginn and KB who I remember making a difference in the receiving game, but his touches were of course pretty limited.

I'm definitely excited about the prospect of Cam having more reliable receivers / play makers.  Even if defenses have to worry about just one more offensive weapon (Greg, KB, Stew, CMC & Samuel) it could make a big difference.  Hopefully Shepard  will also be a threat.  I like what I'm seeing from him.

Stewart caught 3 receptions per game in Cam's rookie year compared to 0.5 receptions per game last year. He was an option in 2011 that the D had to account for and last year they didn't. I am pretty sure we were dead last in RB receptions in 2016 and that's pretty amazing since @Saca312 said our RB pass defense SOS last year was 25th and that included playing against us (probably worse against everyone but us). Fozzie, our receiving RB had 25 receptions, but even that total has a big caveat. 17 of Fozzie's 25 receptions came in 3 games where Stewart got hurt/was out. So, in the 12 games we had a healthy Stewart, Stewart and Fozzie combined for 16 receptions. WTF kind of offense is that. So ass backwards. Instead of throwing to RBs to ease the rush, we kept them in to help the OL and the defenses knew it and took advantage of it.

To put the RB receptions in perspective. Justin Forsett missed half the season and was awful and got replaced and he had 20 receptions or more than Fozzie/Stewart combined in 12 games. Christine Micheal who bounced around 2 teams as a backup had more. Chris Ivory who was time sharing and played awful and isn't a receiving RB had more. Indianapolis' 2nd string and 3rd string RBs each had more. If you look at the list of RBs who had under 30 receptions last year, it boggles your mind that our starting RB and "3rd down/receiving" RB combined for 16 receptions in those 12 games.

Reggie freaking Bush, who literally was on his last legs and barely played at all, had 30 more receiving yards than Stewart.

Cam is more Big Ben, Favre, Marino than Brady and Brees.

Asking Cam to be a dink and dunk QB is like asking Frank Thomas to become Ichiro, or Mike Tyson to become a jab artist. It's not gonna happen. Cam knows his best asset is his arm

People are delusional if they think our offense is gonna change into the patriots offense.

Agree 100% on Favre being the prototypical Cam but that's why I think you're wrong. Dude's accuracy and arm were on par with Cam and he's the best shovel passer the sport's ever seen. Cam may never dink and dunk like Brady but there's ways to utilize his strengths in the short game.

Oh, Fozzy made Ginn look like one of the most reliable receivers in the league. He was very inconsistent from the film I saw, and a primary reason he rarely was targeted in the short/checkdown game.

I post this GIF a lot, but it pretty much summed what Fozzy has done/the trouble Cam has had all last season. That's why I don't think his spot is that secure this year.
