I've never understood this line of thought.

So, if a person feels slighted or wronged, the best course of action is to keep quiet or the offending party may really turn up the heat on you?

Cam has a legitimate grievance.  His livelihood, health and future are in jeopardy.

He used all the proper channels and look what that got him.

Damn right. The refs are able to hide behind the shield. Cam should be able to say anything he wants and the moment he steps on the field be treated like any other QB. The refs are arrogant bastards.

Yeah, his not "calling out" any ref sure worked like a charm for his first 6 years in the league.  Great point.

(P.S. And he sure as hell can't leave it up to his head coach to do any "calling out".  His head coach would rather point out without even being asked why his QB really, really deserved it.)

They've already shown they refuse to take the issue seriously with Cam and you can probably still expect calls not to go his way . Which means we need much better Oline play if the refs aren't going to make the calls, that and quicker pass calls from Shula. There's absolutely no excuse to call so many deep routes this season unless Kalil and Moton end up being A+ OTs which I seriously doubted. If they suck Cam might be experiencing more of the same poo.

Who could have predicted E Cat would chime in with yet another eye roll inducing hot take on the wrong side of an issue.

stop bringing race into everything I post, it has absolutely no basis in what i'm trying to say. I'm the biggest Cam supporter, and love my QB to death, but I know how the league takes it when any one player tries to undermine the integrity of the sport, whether it's true or not.

Cam already reached out to the commissioner and has called out Ed Hochuli who's one of the more respected refs in the league. Mike Pereira chimed in on the situation and has made his stance pretty clear, along with other journalists, pundits, and sportscasters, so essentially the whole world knows that Cam wasn't getting calls last year. Some sided with him, others didn't.

Does Cam have a legitimate argument. Of course he does. But if he keeps making it and issue and bringing it to the forefront of social media, the problem will never go away. Out of sight, out of mind. If he forgets about it, I'm sure the league will as well and the refs will start treating him like every other QB. He has to realize the power structure of the NFL and that no one player is bigger than the league. The NFL can do without Cam, and I know none of us want that. I want him to be protected, not just for the future success of the Panthers, but more importantly for his own well being and livelihood.

Cam for the longest time went out of his way to avoid speaking about the issue. It wasn't until after the opener in Denver last year where fans, and the sports media started talking about it that he finally couldn't avoid it. Blaming Cam in any way is just mind numbing levels of absurdity.

but that's my point. He's used all the proper channels, he's made his opinion clear on the matter, so what's next? To keep quiet and see if the league addresses the situation this season, or keep making an issue out of it?

I just feel the constant nagging and complaining is not going to get him anywhere. Ron Rivera knows this, which is why he's received so much flack for not backing up Cam 100% of the time. Sure it's not the popular approach, but in my eyes it is the "Right" approach if you actually want to see some positive changes.

But the thing is, prior to 2016, I didn't really notice it being an issue. From everything I saw, he was treated fairly for the most part. Sure there were calls missed here and there, but it definitely wasn't a blatant disregard for his health and safety like it was in 2016.

I guess it's not an issue when a QB receives zero roughing the passer calls in 2015, the year after calling out a referee for being biased against him, and barely getting any in 2016?

I'm not really sure what you're arguing for here. Honestly you are seemingly arguing against yourself between posts in this thread.

From my perspective, I am hard pressed to find an instance in my years watching football where I can recall a QB taking such a beating, and the refs allowing it to happen like what occurred in our season opener. You cannot downplay that. It certainly didn't get any better as the season progressed because it was not adequately addressed by the league, and our FO did an absolutely pathetic and frankly embarrassing job standing up for Newton throughout the season. With our head coach saying he would have taken a shot that resulted in Newton getting a concussion, and never or barely if at all remotely willing to approach criticism of league officials, it's clear what ultimately really matters to this franchise. It's a damn shame. If you want to stick your fingers in your ears and close your eyes, okay, but don't attempt to criticize Newton or other fans for speaking out.
