Panthers Surprise Dorman High School's Football Team With Invite To Share Practice Field During Training Camp

The Panthers are known to do things differently than most NFL franchises. Dictating who gets to share the field is one of them.

Last year, the Panthers invited a local High School football team from Spartanburg to practice with the players, becoming the first known NFL franchise to do so. With it being a success, the Panthers plan on doing it again with another High School.

Dorman High School - based in Roebuck, South Carolina - has been chosen as the team to share the field with the Panthers.

And they weren't expecting it.

“We weren’t expecting it and really didn’t know anything about it,” said Dorman coach David Gutshall, adding everybody was caught off guard since nobody lobbied the Panthers for an invite.

I think it's rather cool the Panthers are giving schools the chance without them having to beg or do anything for the opportunity. I'm sure these High School kids will cherish this opportunity and remember it for a life-time.

Even Thomas Davis enjoys what the Panthers are doing, and wishes something similar happened to him in his High School days.

Panthers Pro-Bowl linebacker Thomas Davis acknowledged last year he never got close to having such a chance to work around pro players when he was growing up in rural Georgia.

But all in all, it'll be a fun day for the young football players as they get to practice next to some of the world's best.

Quote

I really think everybody is excited. Our administration is as well as our athletic department, so it will be a fun day. Sometimes football practices are not fun and this will be a fun day for all of us.”

If any of those kids werent Panthers Fans before this, Im sure they are now. I love how this team connects with its fanbase. Im sure most teams do things like this, but it just seems that this team and players go above and beyond to interact with our community on a personal level.

    • I find it more like now that I have been forced to watch Young so much it isn’t as much of a shock to my senses.   Desensitized they call it.   For real, it just looks normal almost now. Where the first game of 2023 I wasn’t sure what I was looking at it was so out of bounds for NFL type play. I literally couldn’t make sense of what I had seen vs Atlanta that first week.
    • Lynch in SF. Great is subjective but he has done pretty well there.
    • Sure, except Stroud has the ability to stretch the field with deep passes. He did that often last night with ease, but couldn’t connect on many due to being flustered by the defense. BY9 gets flustered and can’t throw screens, let alone even think about any deeper passes. Stroud would’ve changed the franchise and done more with the situation last year. My thought at least.    the hope is that last year showed tepper that he needed to step back from football decisions. There’s a positive in most situations and maybe we’ll see a new tepper in the near future.
