If you saw what that Raiders guard just got, it's going to take at least 11 million per year to lock up Trai, and prob 9 million minimum for Norwell.

Thomas Davis will likely retire if he doesn't get a contract. It's highly doubtful he even considers playing for another team. However, this really puts a strain at what we can do.

Maybe it's just me, but this situation with Olsen, and Davis who are both only getting older just makes me that much more pissed off about our FO's lackluster effort in improving our roster last offseason while many other teams in the league improved. We do not have the luxury of throwaway seasons. Time will tell just how much our FO's incompetence cost us considering how short teams Super Bowl windows are these days in the NFL. The Patriots aren't the norm, they have only lost their division like one time in the last near 20 years.

The team only has so much money after signing all those FAs we picked up and the draftees, AND KK. I doubt they want to give anyone much more so they can have enough for the big names coming up next year.

Thomas Davis is this team's Ray Lewis in regards to how he represents and embodies the team spirit (don't @ me[emoji23]). I'm hoping he gets the extension he deserves just not at the cost of the future.

I hate to say this, but if I had to make a choice between either it would be Olsen getting the money.  Damn!  I hope that doesn't have to happen.

I'm reasonably sure all the people on here saying "they deserve it" and "pay the man" have no idea what these guys make, what they have made, and what is reasonable.

Davis is the 6th highest paid player on the team.  In addition he got a 10 mil signing bonus in 2015.  He's made a cool $55 mil over his career.  He is not hurting for money.  He made 13.6 mil in 2009-2011 when he was able to play 9 games due to injuries.  I do not recall anyone from management asking to renegotiate his contract after he got hurt and missed all of those games. 

Olsen is the 3rd highest paid player on the panthers behind Cam and Kuechly.  He received a signing bonus of $12 mil in 2015.  He's made $32 mil with the panthers.  He is not hurting either.

I think these guys like where they are and want 2 things - to get a contract extension because they like it here and convert some of their salary to guaranteed (bonus) money.  I'm sure the Panthers will accommodate them at a fair price.  To insinuate they are unhappy or feel unappreciated or underpaid is a disservice to their legacy.

This is in no way related to the Steve Smith issue.  That was a leadership / locker room issue.  Gettleman did what he had to.

Out of the four people mentioned in this thread (Norwell, turner, Olsen, and TD), I'm sad to say but TD should be last.. We already have his replacement and the others are in or entering their primes. I hope we can work it out though

"Contract extension" does not automatically equate to a player (in this case, TD) demanding top-tier money. Like it or not TD is declining  and he and the FO both know it. I think for TD it's more about the security of knowing he'll be here than in getting a bunch of money.

 

Also, keep in mind that declining does not = bad. It means that an elite player like TD is now a very good player that will become above average, then average, then below average over the next few seasons. How rapidly the decline occurs is unknown but it's inevitable.

Davis and Olsen are worth more than they are receiving, for sure.  Do we have the money to spend?  Football is a vicious business.  I hope they find the money, but not at the expense of our future.
