And another one. Thomas Davis wants a contract extension before Training Camp.

I'm well aware that LT pay is in a different league to most positions. I don't think I have stated otherwise. You make some fair points and you clearly have a better grasp of the MK contract breakdown than me. However many writers and analysts who do this for a job (not just me a fan with no inside knowledge) agree that its a terrible deal. In fact most people have it as the worst deal in free agency across the league.

You compare Okung and Reiff who have had struggles of their own but conveniently ignore Whitworth who was clearly the best available and signed cheaper than Kalil. If Kalil is bad it will be a severe handicap in playing terms. Point is its a risk. I'm sure like you I hope it works out. If it does-then it will be turn out to be market value. But even then its a gamble. Why not a prove-it contract?

My point in this has always been that expensive contracts especially to FA's have knock on effects on others. Jacksonville is a classic case in point. Great players terrible team. You disagree. You think I'm a horrible person for even suggesting it. Ok fine. But this is a forum where we discuss opinions. You say I assume things. Well so do you. That doesn't mean we can't discuss it without getting all offended.

And you still didn't answer my question. If the Davis and Olsen talk were unaffected by other contracts, why weren't they brought up at the end of the season? Why is it AFTER free agency and just prior to training camp that it comes up? Because they are trying to get leverage for their negotiations? Doesn't seem very smart to wait until all the cap is accounted for. So do you see them as disloyal self-serving players? I'm genuinely curious about your reasoning for their timing.

I hope they get their extension. I hope MK works out at LT. My motivation is asking the question isn't to slander anyone, I simply pose a question.

Easy buddy....no one thinks you're a horrible person. No one is offended. This isn't personal - I just don't agree. That's what a discussion is, homes.

I didn't bring up Whitworth because the dude is 50 years old. I don't blame the Panthers for trying to find some stability at the LT position. And I'm not trying to defend the Kalil contract or signing, but they were locked on to him from the beginning. They know a lot more than we do, so I tend to trust their analysis and opinion. There really isn't such a thing as a "prove it" deal for LTs. They're high demand - someone will pay them - we HAD to have one. It is what it is (John Fox voice). I think they did what they had to do and I don't think the money is as terrible as it looks from the outside - which is where all of the national media writers form their opinions and the reason why I don't cite them when evaluating the Panthers - and I don't think it has anything at all to do with TD or Olsen.

Players use practices and training camp as leverage to negotiate their contracts. It's really the only "power" that they have over the team. This isn's some new concept they decided to test out this year - this is what ALL players do. I get it fits the "they're pissed at Kalil's contract narrative", but this is literally how it's done in the NFL and really just business as usual for players wanting new contracts when they're currently under contract.

I don't ever fault a player for trying to go out and get more money. I don't fault TD, I don't fault Olsen, and I sure as hell didn't fault Josh Norman either. Whether I personally agree with it or not is irrelevant because it's their right to do it and if they can get it then good for them.

TD played 94% of the snaps last year, while shaq played less than 50%. This is with Luke being out half the year.

To me this shows they played mostly nickel. The fact that they went out and got a proven nickel tells me they plan to continue playing mostly nickel.

Sent using the amazing CarolinaHuddle mobile app

Panthers where forced to play more nickel due to Luke's injury. His number is low due to AJ Klein (32%)  taking snaps away form him.

If Klein wasn't playing Shaq's reps  would have been around 80% : )

Panthers will play base 4-3 majority of the time espeically the types of offense we will be facing.

Gentleman's bet?

I don't want DG overpaying anyone, fan favorite or not.  The game is about winning, not propping up players past their prime.  I'm not saying TD is past his prime mind you, but he's getting up there and his knee still terrifies me.  Olsen is no spring chicken either.  I love both of these guys but if they (or anyone else) becomes a liability, it's time for them to go.  Period.

    • You are wise beyond your years to agree with me.  I think Fields is the free agent with the most upside---I mean, you keep looking until your franchise qb is on the roster-we are all hoping that Bryce will grab it, but he has not yet.
    • he is a sleeper--I am not good at predicting college QBs who succeed in the NFL, but this guy is going to change my luck.  I just think he'd be a good fit here.  4th round, maybe 5th.
