Introspective Cam Newton "My Prime Better Be Now"

The point is Shula can do so many things (far more creative than I just described) but he doesn't. He doesn't even let Cam get into a rhythm. If you want him to do well, you gotta let him complete those lay ups instead of running up the gut 1000x and then forcing him to throw it 10-25 yards in his first possession.

maybe the OL and WR combo (lack of protection and lack of getting separation)....was a scenario Shula viewed as unhealthy for Cam to put him in "get into rhythm " mode often.   I mean Cam is at his best doing no huddle shotgun IMO.   That also meant it was the most dangerous mode for us to be in....every play becomes a tee off on Cam potential play.

Film shows deep passes on near every play. Article coming up soon showing how Cam's situation was rough.

There are also short passes he refused to throw. Times early in the pattern where the receiver is open but he holds the ball and misses his hot reads. In many of those deep patterns he has a running back open in the flats. He can also change the play if he doesn't.like the matchup against the defense. Truth is that this has been his offense for the past 2 years and he know what he needs to do. For some reason he often appears confused and unsure of himself. That is where he needs to be more decisive and take what the defense offers him. A coach can't do that for you, a player has to make the next step.

I am glad Cam doesn't make excuses for his issues like people on here do for him. If he blamed Shula like huddlers do he would never have improved and would be riding the bench. Given he admits his issues, why do fans keep blaming everything else.?

I just hope he gets back to finding the open receiver instead of locking on to KB. That poo became very noticeable after the first few weeks and got old quick.

But hold up, why can't Cam lock onto KB? Is that a slight to Cam or KB? Other QB's lock on to their best WR and they make the plays

That's the problem. He would stare him down to the point opposing defenses beat him to the punch. I love my QB but Cam did do that quite a bit last year instead of spreading the ball.

When Tolbert is one of two main short throw options and Fozzy's 50/50 anyways, it's fair to expect our short passing game was bad and not trusted.

Wait didn't everyone say Stewart is such a great receiving option we didn't need McCaffrey..... Either he sucks or he doesn't. You can't have it both ways. And actually Fozzy is pretty good catching the ball. So again stop making excuses for Cam. He isn't...

Why do Shula apologists act like you can only criticize the OC if you think Cam's perfect?

Life's greatest mysteries...

I think the whole debate about who is responsible is ridiculous. Shula and Cam are interdependent. Cam has mastered the system and now needs to evolve with the offense to take advantage of all his new weapons. Shula has already changed the playbook. Now they need to teach it to the players and install it. I am done looking back and am looking forward. Honestly 2016 was forgettable on many levels.

For all that people blame the OL, I've long suspected that there's a psychological aspect at play in their "inability" to protect Wonder Woman. The most likely scenario is that their resentment for his lack of leadership is creating a subconscious desire NOT to protect him, which in turn is subtly diminishing their performance and leading to sacks. (Note that they play better in front of Anderson.)

That said, they are professionals, and are ultimately responsible for doing their jobs whether or not they get along perfectly with all of their colleagues. That's called maturity.

Could there be similar issues with Shula's play design? Drawing up plays he knows will fail? Note how much better his run design is...

Shula's offense IS literally Cam making every play.

That offense would have been perfect had we had a better O-line.  Cam's athleticism just begs for the type of offense Shula designed.  Unfortunately the O-line problems and Cam's injuries severely limited the production.

I'm looking forward to this new offense.  I just hope Cam can make the necessary adjustments...his short throws are not his strong suit.

How long did it take you to decide you were going to create an account to post this weak ass poo? At least be a funny troll or post something that pushes buttons. This is just dumb.

"I'm gonna call him Wonder Woman. That'll really get them. Derp."
