Should the Hornets go after Blake Griffin?

Imagine a starting five in Kemba, Batum, MKG, Blake, and Dwight!  That looks like a team that could compete in the east.  It would certainly make the Hornets look like a threat.  Now the biggest problem with Blake is his penchant for getting injured.  He also would probably cost us too much money, but perhaps we could offer him a one-two year deal with an option.  Some say Blake should join Westbrook in Oklahoma, but he wouldn't improve that team much.  If Westbrook couldn't win a championship with KD (and Harden for that matter), I don't see them winning it with only the addition of Blake.  Plus, I think Blake would be smart coming to the East, and having to meet the Warriors in the Finals.  If the money is right, this would be a super sweet spot for him.  Charlotte is a low key area, but not necessarily in the backwoods.  He would also have the chance to go up against Lebron, and ruin his chances getting back to the finals for the umpteenth time in a row.  What say everyone to this?

How??? They have no money, they are over the cap amd can only use MLE and the 3.3m exception.

It would have to be a sign and trade and Clippers would want more than MKG back. Likely have to give up Batum or Kemba to get that deal done along with draft picks galore.

The team is already at 107m and the cap is 99m. The only way they add a superstar is through a trade and thats highly unlikely.

We would have to trade for them.  We know Kemba and Batum can score, and Blake has super star potential with that.  With the addition of Monk and the continue development of Kaminsky, I think we could make a run.  The only question, a very serious one, is health.  Could Blake stay healthy?  Can Dwight stay healthy for that matter?

Ah, I didn't know about the cap.  As for trading, we wouldn't have to trade for Blake.  He opted out of his contract and is a free agent right now, as I understand it.

They can do a sign and trade, Clippers sign him and then trade him to the Hornets. Giving up Batum and 2-3 first round picks would be what it would take to get it done.

Question is which line up do you like

Kemba,Batum, MKG,Williams, Howard
Or
Kemba, Monk, MKG, Griffin, Howard

And is griffin worth 2 firsts plus Batum

Yeah, agree the salaries are adding up.  Cant see us fitting Blake in here.

If we had to trade, then I wouldn't do it.

One really promising thing about our team right now is our depth. If we got a Blake or any max type player, we would have to find trading partners for probably Zeller, MKG, Marvin (choose 2) + Lamb. All of a sudden we aren't nearly as deep.

Now the only players I see as really expendable for both short and long term success are Marvin and Lamb. They would probably be the most easily moved pieces. We need to keep Zeller and MKG would be a negative on the trade market.

Trading Marvin & Lamb would free up close to $20m, which would bring us to $28m in space. We would have to use all of that for the top tier player and then have no back-up PG, and have to find replacement depth. No impossible but possible.

Ok, now that I've written this out...I'm so willing to trade Marvin & Lamb to free up space for a top tier guy...Wow I convinced myself. I'm good!

Lol. If that happens id be pumped. I dont think we're done. I think Cho could move guys like Lamb, Marvin, Zeller and MKG.

One guy that many wouldnt like but I do, is Jahlil Okafor. Hes dude some good money the next two years but would give us an offensive big. And i think would go perfectly with Howard.

I liked the idea of Okafor but not after we got Howard. Only if we got rid of Zeller which I wouldn't want to do.

I also want to keep MKG bc his value is so low. We would have to give up something to get rid of him. I think it would be better to keep him and see if a year removed from his injury would get him to finally break out.

But I would have no problem trading Lamb or Marvin.

Kemba

Batum, Monk

MKG

Frank, Okafor

Howard, Zeller

So you think Blake can shoot and okafor can play the 4. Lol, at least if you were the gm they'd have a shot at the number 1 pick every year.

I think this team is going to be mostly the team we go into the season with.    We need a decent backup PG so that may be the MLE and we may make moves here and there but I don't see it happening.    Considering how bad this team's situation was about 3 weeks ago, this is the best case scenario honestly.   Baring some major injuries, we can compete in the East, and possibly get out of the 1st round.   That's a win for us.

    • You can keep talking about that cherry picked stat line.  Bryce Young in his entire football career.....has never been a deep ball guy.  Sure, everyone needs that in their game.  He does too.  That's not why we drafted him.    We don't need to try to wish him into a downfield passer.  We don't need to build an O that doesn't play to his strengths.   You know what weren't the best at?  Well below the league average in what we got out of the backfield.  Well below the league average in YAC.  That's easy yards. Those moves the chains.  And Bryce getting the ball out quickly to playmakers is literally why we drafted him......and we immediately traded away those guys right before we drafted him and given him none.
    • I see this division being between us and ATL this year and unfortunately, ATL is shaping up to be one of the strongest offensive teams in the league. If they play to their potential, they could legit average 30 pts a game. The season after this one as Pennix develops even more team chemistry? That’s going to be pretty painful for the rest of the division.   Until last night, Panthers were a team that didn’t even have a legit #1 receiver. We all hoped we would, eventually with Coker or XL, but that’s a long shot, and deep down we all knew it. We really needed ‘that guy’ on offense and hopefully we got him. When your receiver room looks like ours and the opportunity comes to draft a legit #1 receiver who had his level of consistent production, you’ve got to take him. There’s no LB, safety, corner or DT that can shape a game like a legit stud WR1. not even close. The opportunity to get a guy like this don’t exactly come along every day. An all-pro edge guy, yes, but that wasn’t available.  Teams that make deep runs have at least 1 ‘that guy’ on offense and defense. Hopefully we can now cross one off the list.
    • I wouldn't hate if we took a quick twitch speedster in the 4th, but when you look at the WR room right now with T-Mac, XL, and Coker all in their first 2 years, even with Thielen there, I'd rather pick up a vet FA for that role than another rookie, just to get some more experience in the room. Then once we lose Theilen, unless we hit it right on the FA signing for that speedster role, maybe we look at using like a 3rd rounder next year to fill the role, but that's a problem for next offseason hopefully.
