Canes Bringing Back Ryan, Carrick

Recommended Posts

Per: Hurricanes.com

The Canes have agreed to terms with forward: Derek Ryan and defenseman: Trevor Carrick

- Ryan signed a one year deal that will pay him $1.425 million for the 2017-18 season. Ryan set career high's in goals (11), assists (18), and points (29) last year. He was also a finalist for the Masterton Trophy. Ryan was previously the MVP for the Swedish Hockey League before signing with Carolina as a free agent last year.

Ideally Derek will slot in as the 4C and provide that line with a little offense. However, Francis, Peters, and co. could easily give him the keys to the third line again.

- Trevor Carrick was signed to a one year/two way contract that will pay him $670,000 at the NHL level and $77,500 at the AHL level. Carrick had 4 goals and 12 assists last year for the Checkers. He id considered one of the Canes top defenseman prospects along with Haydn Fleury, Roland McKeown, and Jake Bean. Carrick was originally drafted in the 4th round of the 2012 NHL Draft by Carolina, he has appeared in two NHL games in his career.

    • Yeah all the mock drafts have that happening with us taking a fuging CB at 5 lol.
    • Both guys you mentioned are in the 60s on PFF and Frazier, as a rookie no less, is almost 80. You are overrating our guys. Frazier would be dominating with our guards around him. We made a mistake passing on Humphrey for TMJ a few years ago and a bunch of us were pissed passing on another solid OL and the same draftniks in here really wanted a C and we passed on another stud for a position we didn’t need to reach for this draft. Sometimes the answer is on the roster but there are still much better players. Bryce has been “above backup play” the past few weeks. Would you actually argue that we wouldn’t be improved with a top 5-8 QB like Allen or Burrow or Jackson, etc.?
