This is a really good listen for anyone actually interested in what science says about nutrition.

You can fast forward 10 minutes past intro and ads.

The rest is extremely informative.

Especially interesting for you low carb people is at the hour and fifteen minute mark. He addresses why it is a really bad idea and why some scientific studies are paid more attention to than others.

I'm a huge fan of Gary Taubes, graduate from Harvard, Stanford and Columbia. He went to Harvard for physics and takes the "question everything" approach. He's an award winning science writer and as far as I'm concerned is THE expert of nutritional science. I plan on ready all his books. He's a low carb fan and wants to scientifically debunk the Energy Balance Hypothesis- which is the calories in vs calories out idea.

No matter how smart someone is, if they're in favor of one simple explanation for fitness, or advertising that they're trying to debunk some commonly accepted idea, they're trying to sell something.

Nutrition and fitness is an incredibly complicated, personal thing and no two people are the same. They all respond differently to different thing, thrive under different circumstances, and fail under others.

Every single person has their own unique set of circumstances that define their fitness reality, and every single person has their own realistic goal and best goal.

every person needs individualized help achieving that. This ranges from their ideal beach body, to their ideal hdl/ldl levels. It is the responsibility of every health and fitness professional, from the most highly trained neurosurgeon to the lowliest planet fitness trainer, to help people realize their own goals, and help them develop their own paths to fitness.

strong people do not put people down; they lift them up.

That said, 3 months from right elbow surgery, 6 weeks from left, 280 clean.

I agree and I try to avoid speaking out against other methods. I just want people to know what has worked for me and is, in fact, perfectly safe and effective. I have done exhaustive research on low carb and hope to parlay this into a profession because I see the results every day, not just with me but with thousands of others in various forums. I want to help lift others towards their goals and I've found an easy way to do it. Is it for everyone? No, we are too different for any cookie cutter approach but for a large subset of people low carb can be a life saver and being a part of that is something I miss dearly.

Congrats on the cleans, no idea yet what I'm going to do for fitness yet. I'm going to ride my physical therapy out before I make that determination. As much as I want to add mass I just don't know how wise or practical it is for me.

I am quite wary of the artificial meat Igo was talking about earlier in the thread. Anything being pushed by Gates is something to run from screaming. As of now, it appears it is full of GMOs and glyphosate.

My new thing....try roasting tomatoes with garlic, basil, & oregano (I use romas)...add some grilled asparagus, eggplant, or zuchinni.  Toss with ww pasta.  Do not need sauce. Yum.

Did something similar tonight with sautéing garlic and onion, then some broccoli, asparagus, yellow and Italian squash. Squeezed some Lemon juice and add cherry tomatoes. Simmer and season, then throw on some whole wheat pasta.

Delish.

Gotta come off my PPI to get tested for h-pylori.  Very concerned about the rebound effect.  Almost at 36 hours being off Protonix and not too bad, but it's usually day three when things start to pick up according to my research.  Doing the plant based diet along with some supplements like DGL and digestive enzymes to help.  Would be nice to get off this medication for good.  Too many problems can occur from long term use of a PPI.

Well I have stuck my toe in the water anyway. I have started eating a big plate of raw greens for lunch every day. I do put some feta cheese and some real bacon bits in there for flavor but it's still a lot better than eating ham sammiches or hamburgers every day. I've been doing it for about a week now and I'm beginning to actually look forward to it. I think I like raw collards the best, mixed with some spinach and mustard greens.
