The people inhabiting Blue Zones share common lifestyle characteristics that contribute to their longevity. The Venn diagram at the right highlights the following six shared characteristics among the people of Okinawa, Sardinia, and Loma Linda Blue Zones:[13]

  • Family – put ahead of other concerns
  • Less smoking
  • Semi-vegetarianism – except for the Sardinian diet, the majority of food consumed is derived from plants
  • Constant moderate physical activity – an inseparable part of life
  • Social engagement – people of all ages are socially active and integrated into their communities
  • Legumes – commonly consumed

In his book, Buettner provides a list of nine lessons, covering the lifestyle of blue zones people:[14]

  1. Moderate, regular physical activity.
  2. Life purpose.
  3. Stress reduction.
  4. Moderate calories intake.
  5. Plant-based diet.
  6. Moderate alcohol intake, especially wine.
  7. Engagement in spirituality or religion.
  8. Engagement in family life.
  9. Engagement in social life.

There are essential proteins, essential fats, but no such thing as an essential carb. The Inuit People are just one of many who have lived, perfectly healthy, on zero carb diets.

We do NOT NEED carbs, period. Carbs, especially refined carbs, are the root cause of many of today's medical problems from heart disease to autism.

I have no problem with vegetables, particularly leafy greens but I void sweet (carrot, corn) and starchy ones because of their sugar content. I also avoid fruits, indulging seasonally in berries or watermelon.

There is TONS of research on this of every kind. People who are insulin resistant and carb sensitive, like me, have zero reason to eat carbs. If you're fat and sick there's a really good chance drastically cutting carbs can fix it. I know, I've done it.

Since I KNOW I'm right I'm 100% content  to do just that. Check out Ketogains on line or on FB if you're curious.

the body can function on zero carbs and get energy from fats (glucose) but there's literally no point. you lose weight running a caloric deficit not from cutting carbs. i will not respond to anymore of your posts. i understand you lost weight after being obese for a long time and i tip my hat to you. however i feel that you're brainwashed and i hope you see the light before it's too late and you see the long term effects of depriving yourself of essential nutrients. good luck my friend.

Since you're very first sentence is wrong I'll leave you to your ignorance.

JOAT is excited he has found something he can do that has increased his health. That is commendable. What he is doing definitely is better than the standard American diet. In terms of overall health, it is far from ideal, but it is better than what most of the country does thanks to cutting the processed foods and refined sugar.

However, any diet that tells you to put down an apple... You can safely be wary of.
