Voth doing Voth things

These big lumbering WR that can't break tackles require too many targets to be productive.

The guys like Samuel and McCaffrey will provide a bigger punch and will be more efficient because they can make guys miss and take it home.

Take away all the targets and KB is just a possession receiver not a #1WR. He is unable to consistently break tackles like a smaller #89 or his own QB who is great at breaking tackles.

To me Funchess is the better of the two. It is indeed time for these guys to prove it. They are too big to not get YACs.

I took it as voth getting defensive on behalf of the media when Gettleman slighted them in his comments. I like voth, but I don't like the attitude he has that I've seen for years which is typical among media/journalists. .."we are owed access to everything and everyone.  Don't you dare turn us down or speak ill about us or we'll make you pay."

aside from that probably wrong take on his comments, good read.

I tried to find some info on Garrett and Ross, but there's nothing at this point. A writer at SB Nation said that Garrett had a good minicamp.
Teddy Williams is impressed with Fred Ross FWIW.
Jeremy Igo didn't give us too much on that front.
I suppose we can all dream...at least until Rivera just goes with the veteran status quo, regardless of who does what during the preseason. I kind of hate preseason.

No one from sbnation was present at minicamp.

I would say Austin Duke is ahead of both Garrett and Ross at this point.

I would like to say that most Huddlers are smart enough to realize that a 600-700 yard season and multiple TDs means a lot in this run-first offense, but you never know with some people. Me, myself, I don't judge everything by sheer yardage, but I do expect the ball to be caught and for receivers to get open by a couple of yards when someone else is getting doubled.

600-700 yards with a decent catch percentage from Funchess would please me greatly.

The problem last year, (besides injuries) was the fact that Ginn was the lone semi reliable speed guy, and he was effective enough to help the other guys.

We have more speed,  which if used right, will open up the field for the big guys.

I definitely look for Funchess to take advantage. Hopefully Cam trusts him enough to feed him the ball in those moments.

As far as what the OP saud, Getts definitely didn't get blasted.  Getts actually put our guys on notice.

Which is good. Our guys need to perform up to the expectations.

KB is better than Funchess, period. KB is our unquestioned #1 WR. I don't get the unable to break tackles and just a possession WR comments.

Steve Smith - Career YPR: 14.3, yards per target: 8.43, TDs per game: 0.37

Kelvin Benjamin - Career YPR: 14.3, yards per target: 7.43, TDs per game: 0.5

So, the only place stats wise that Smith is better at not being a possession WR is yards per target and that is with KB's two years being his rookie year and first year after ACL injury. Heck, KB averaged 7.97 yards per target last year, not bad for a slow, fat guy.

I am not trying to say in the least that KB is better than Smith or that Smith is a possession WR, but I am trying to point out that KB doesn't look like a fast shifty WR, but it sure doesn't mean he can't break tackles. Look at the play in Voth's article (which by the way was against Atlanta, not Grimes in TB, which was another vicious stiff arm the week after). KB got another 10 yards after contact with the DB because of his size and strength. I just get tired of selling KB short after two seasons. Smith had 64-1026 3 TDs after his first two years and KB had 136-1949 16 TDs, yet people this off-season want to trade him and think Funchess is better. Same discussion before the 2016 season that Funchess would take over. I hope KB is reading all this crap and the memes and is coming in pissed like I saw in those Atlanta and TB stiff arms the last two games of 2016.

No one really knows what Funchess can bring to the table.

Funny you didn't mention YAC when making the comparison...

It's one thing to say it but another to actually implement it. Cam has some of the blame because I remember plays where Funch would be wide open and Cam wouldn't look his way. Hopefully the Offense makes a big turn around this year and everybody can get involved.

Basically a wash. 4.3 YAC for Funchess, 3.8 for Benjamin. Neither are big YAC guys, hence why we drafted two guys who hopefully will be in the 1st and 2nd rounds in this year's draft.

When 60% of the balls thrown your way ultimately lead to incompletions, eventually the QB simply stops looking your direction and so does the defense. What Captain Munnerlyn said about Funch last year shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone. He was simply telling the truth.

I disagree. If Kalil is only slightly above average, that will be plenty good enough for this team.

Yep, he doesn't have to be great just good enough to not be a liability. The strength of the OL is highly likely to still be the interior.

If Kalil is an All-Pro, we're going to the Super Bowl. Just go ahead and book that poo.

I was referring to Smitty whose career YAC is 5.5.

BTW, so far in their short careers,  Funchess is at 4.0 and Benji at 3.1.
