Hurney has'nt done a bad job. the only bone i can see is Davis....why take Davis at a safety and turn him into an LB....3 year turn around when we could have just drafted an LB. WTF..... I retract my statement that Hurney is Fox foreskin...he's really jus Fox sack sweat....

What is the consensus on Marty Hurney? I personally have no issues with the guy, he usually nails the first round pick, does a good job with our cap and signing talent. Even if Fox is gone, I would prefer Hurney as our GM

Hmm lets see....

hE HAS mortgaged the future 2 years in a row, paid one man a 5 men salary and left this team with NO DEPTH ....

If this season fails, its over for hurney. Give me someone who has a fire to prove something to the nfl.

That's a fairly short list considering Spoon and Pep go back to 2002. I wouldn't put Stewart on that list but I would add Dwill.

And those guys he brought up are all 1st and 2nd round picks. Where are Hurney's late round players that are making an impact on this team? Captain Munnerlyn? Anyone will tell you that the late round players are where GMs make their money.

Hurney's drafting has hurt this team more than Jake and Fox.

we should really be able to enlarge avatars....

i was going to defend hurney.. but as i was writing my post i realized he let muhammud go a year before we went to the NFCCG and it might have actually cost us that year out of all years.

I guess he's done alright, but the trying to get 1st round picks for Peppers and nobody was biting wasn't smart!the Patriots wanted him,he should have lowered it to 2nd round picks and sent him on his way,if that didn't work,a2nd and 4th,anything to get him outta here!Instead, they are paying $17M+,maybe $19M for a primadonna that plays half ass for our team, our season might already be over, bench him, screw him,I hope he gets a lousy contract w/another team!He has done great(Pep)for our team in the past, but for that much $$,he is a worthless bum!The Panthers need to learn to cut players that aren't worth the boatload of $$ it takes to keep them!If peppers decides to play like superman,I'll change my tune, but til then he is being pretty stupid for playing 1/2 assed and it will come back and bite him in the ass!:nono:

Anyone who has ever said... "With the talent we have on this team _____________" has no right to bitch about Hurney. He is responsible for getting it here. That said I think we can do better. I also don't think we are very talented right now and that the team has performed above the talent level during the Fox era.

The problem with our team is depth. We have no depth at either lines, which IMHO are the two most important groups in football. The reason we have no depth is poor late round drafting and Pep's huge salary. Both of which are his fault. We have never tried to get a early round QB to groom behind Jake. He is just not that good a GM all around. We can do better.

I assumed this thread was a joke until I opened it. As ultimate decision maker of personnel, Hurney is the most responsible for this team's failure. I'd give Fox the silver and Peppers the bronze. Honorable mention to Jake of course.

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
