Rival Thread: How Losing Shanahan Affects The Falcons More Than Originally Thought

Because Ryan's arm strength has never been his strength and I find it funny that a few examples of under thrown balls = he is declining...especially after the season he just had. Ryan just turned 32...QB's usually don't decline that early.

Reading comprehension must not be your forte.  He said Ryan's arm strength was on the decline, that's all.  He didn't make the sweeping generalization you are suggesting.

Don't think that Ryan's lost a little zip on the ball?  Fine.  But as you said, that's never been his thing anyway.  So talk about that, don't put words in OP's mouth and then argue against them.

I keep trying to tell Falcon fans around me. You don't just lose the MAIN KEY cog in your system, bring in a drunk, and expect no drop-off. Shanahan WAS the magic to that offense. Now, the Falcons do have very good explosive playmakers, and should still be a good offense, but I expect a huge regression to the mean on that side of the ball, especially now that teams have racked up film on them.

P.S. I damn near cried seeing the intricate, creative design plays by Shanahan and remembering how we still have Shula.

And you talk about me being sensitive. I've seen him mention multiple times that Ryan will decline because of his arm strength and the loss of Shanahan, I'm not just talking about the OP.

Much like it has been in the NFCS for basically forever, I just don't believe anyone knows what's going to be what until the season begins to evolve. They lost their OC. We lost our DC...blah blah blah and meh. Any talk of decline and a rise to supremacy in the division because of this or that is simply speculation born of idleness. We'll see what happens as the season unfolds.

As much as anything else, regressing to the means is just as much reason for a decline. Here are a few things that fall under that umbrella:

They started 6-4 and got hot. Then that heat flamed out in their last 18 minutes of the season.

They stayed injury-free for the most part. Like us in 2015, the o-line remained largely in tact.

Maybe this falls under the above category in a sense, but luck. Of course teams created their own luck, but there were some plays that I was like wtf! Whether it was a near pick or their receivers made some very nice catches, to lucky bounces so on and so forth.

I do expect at least a slow start based on coaching changes and it will depend on health and chemistry if they can get hot again.

Did you even read any of what @Saca312 wrote? It doesn't appear that you did. Either that or your a homer Falcon fan with nothing better to do than weakly troll a rival fan forum. Neither option bodes well for you mental capacity.

that's pretty much all he is....a homer fan of the team that blew a 28-3 lead in 18 minutes in the superbowl whose motto this year is "embrace the suck" while starting their first year in the sphincter dome graced on the outside by a statue of a giant eagle.

one big difference is that who we replaced our DC with might be an upgrade as he was the guy that rivera wanted from the beginning.

for the fallcons, there's no where to go but down from shanahan. that was the perfect OC and system for ryan and the team. i mean had they been able to keep that band together )and got a defense that doesn't give up a 28-3 lead in 18 minutes), they very well could have been the top team in the league for a long time.

they'll pretend it won't have that effect on the outside, but on the inside they'll be singing this...

If you think back 2016 wasn't Shanahan's first year with Atlanta and they did struggle until Matt got the system down. You can say your going to run the same system all you want but without Shanahan it can't be the same system, there will be differences.

I expect Matt Ryan to be his old self this year, Patty Melt!
