WR -- A comfortable situation? finally??

Who exactly are you comfortable with? We have even more question marks than this time last year. Benji is at least solid but who else is reliable? Funchess regressed last year, both Benji and Funchess struggled mightely to create seperation. Shepard is coming off being a special teamer for most of his career, Charles Johnson has speed but struggled with the Vikings and we dont even know if he'll make the roster, Samuel is a rookie, Bersin is solid but may not even make the roster, and who else do we have??

If you're also counting players that aren't receivers then Olsen is a huge factor obviously. McCaffrey could be a huge difference IF Shula makes a decent amount of checkdowns and pass plays to him. Because its sad to say but even though McCaffrey is a fuging rookie RUNNING BACK who hasnt played a down yet in the NFL, he has the best hands on the team . Its going to come down to the playcalls and Cams short throw accuracy.

Our Oline also has more question marks than last year. We really have no idea how our tackles will work out. If they are piss poor you better hope to God Shula actually calls quick passes most of the time to McCaffrey and Samuel . Kalil had a good rookie season but has generally been ass since then. Moton is a rookie, Williams is a question mark as a full time starter, and Oher is done .

Our WR core isn't scaring anyone right now.  The oline blocking and the new short passes to our rookies are going to be key in whether or not teams start to be afraid of our passing game in 2017.

No one as pudgy as Benjamin should be described as solid.

lol

I'm just being optimistic to the max since it's the offseason.  Plus, felt like a WR discussion about who we currently have could be good up in this digital hiz-haus.

We also have a new receivers' coach and an "evolution" in our offensive play calling.

There are too, too many moving pieces here, some forward, some backward, for anyone to be calling this either way right now. To be honest, until we see Cam throwing we won't know a darned thing about how well things are going to go.

I've got a lot of hope, but it's 3 months until opening kick-off.

You didn't even mention Austin Duke.  Granted he has only been in shorts and a helmet but just about everyday in OTAs he was making a play unlike Byrd who i haven't heard a chirp from.   He should have been on the NOW THE REST.

Another UDFA I am pulling for.

As of right now, he would probably make the team before any of the last 5 listed. He is still a project but the potential and work ethic is there.

Too early to tell and our franchise QB isn't even throwing yet on top of that.  Secondary made them look pretty bad at today's mini camp and I'd like to believe the receivers have it easier with no contact/pads.....so not sure that's a good sign.

I'm not yet comfortable with our WR corps.  Still think it's the weakest link on our team to be honest (tackles are up there too).

Excited about Shepard.  He's at least got some experience and I hope / think he will push Funchess.

Funchess has some talent but in live games he just seems to disappear far too often.

Excited too about Samuel, but he's a rookie, and may have some injury issues (knee tendonitis?)  Has me just a little bit concerned.

Charles Johnson the WR is off the field with some mystery injury that Ron won't speak about.  I think he has missed all / most of OTAs... so I'm counting him out.

Of all the rest, Austin Duke seems to be the one making the most plays so far.  We'll have to see who else, if anyone steps up in training camp and the preseason.

Perhaps what has me most hopeful for our receivers is the change of coaches.  I'm hoping Taylor & Cotch can really spark something in this group and help them take the next step.

I think we have to see how cam fares after the rehab. My guess is he comes out stronger than ever but it's going to take time to develop rapport with all these weapons. My guess is we'll struggle the first couple of weeks but could really turn it on later in the season. He made guys like ted ginn and philly brown real weapons in 2015. I'm excited but it's a tempered excitement. I don't expect fireworks from the start, but I see potential in this group.
